Hello, I'm 16 and I just started working at a fast food restaurant, and I absolutely dislike it. I have worked four shifts, and have another one tomorrow, and two days after. My aunt got me the job, so it's not like I earned my position. I am a garnisher, which is serving customers with what they would like on their food. Supposedly in a month or so, I should be trained for cashier and grill. I do NOT want to do this. When I have a workshift, I complain that I don't want to go so many times that sometimes I'm convinced I'm not going! My parents both told me to give it a try, and my aunt told me that if at any time it's not for me, then to tell her. I don't think I have what it takes to tell her, because my aunt and my manager think I'm doing such a good job, but I actually hate it. I wanted to use this job as a reference for work experience as it was my first job, but will they give me a bad rep? I was thinking of having my mom explain it to my aunt.. what do you think I should say/do?

Talk to your aunt and explain that you really thank her for helping you to get your first job and how working this position has showed you responsibility and been a great learning experience for you, yet at the same time you have seen that this is just not the job for you . so in the long run the both of you would be better off if you leave this position now, before to much time is invested in training you and you are stuck in a position that your not happy with and will never be able to show your real talents till you find that one job that is just right for you . just as being manager is the right job for your aunt and makes her happy.

Generally speaking, when you quit a job while you are not required to give so many weeks notice, it is the traditional thing to do as well as helping to not leave you last job in a lurch. Typically people give 2 weeks notice though, I have given as many as 4 weeks notice. So, go into your boss and tell him that you are there to give him notice of your termination. If asked why, then make sure you tell him that you enjoyed your time there but, you need to quit for x reason. Maybe have your parents help you with this and role play it out with your parent playing the part of your boss just so that they can give you input on how you sound and how you are phrasing things.

No job is worth suffering for, unless you are following your passion. do not feel bad quitting a fast food corporation. you do not need them as a reference. tell your mom/aunt that, hey, i tried this, but it's not for me and i don't want to be unhappy all the time. tell them you would rather find something more enjoyable or more worthwhile. you are young and have the ability to try all sorts of jobs. there's no reason to start getting stuck in unhappy jobs at such an early age! stand up for yourself and say, thank you i am doing a good job, but i'd rather be doing a better job somewhere else.

Try to stick it out a little longer. Maybe you will start liking it. The first weeks are always rough. Why don't you want to do cashier/grill?

You need to handle this yourself. If you really want the reference try to stick it out for at least six months...but if you hate it that much, be sure you give the manager at least two weeks notice.

Bouncing around from job to job is always bad for your resume'. Stick with it for awhile and try to find ways to kick @$$ at it. In the real world most people don't like their jobs but they do it out of necessity. You're young and impatient, but you never know- it might grow on you!

Why don't you try looking for another job. then after you find another job that u like. go up to your older job manager and quit.
and u should know what to do from there.
