Metal expands as it heats and contracts as it cools. If anything, I would only suspect that it could warp. But, that is more of a danger to a much thinner metal like a car fender.
I worked at a Shoney's restaurant when I was in high school. Our burgers and steaks would be frozen when we tossed them onto the grill. Often, we would put ice around them on the grill and place a dinner roll box over them to keep the steam in to help them to thaw so they would cook faster on the inside without overcooking the outside.
The only thing that I ever heard about ice being a problem for the grill was that it would ruin the thermostat. But, that was from another cook. What did he know? He wasn't an engineer.
Didn't blacksmiths heat metal white hot and then put in into water to cool it?
Best Wishes

In Seattle, it is now the Blue Moon, which sells incredibly wicked solid Chocolate Malts. it is closed now, yet there extensively utilized to be a place on Eastlake reported as Daly's that had solid (and a great form of types) of milkshakes. The 'consistent superb' is likewise merely in Seattle ... Dick'schronic-in ... they're in my opinion hand dipped ice cream (especially made merely for Dick's milk shakes) and are available in merely 3 flavors ... chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. i could drink a shake from any of those 3 places ... and may well be waiting to have a Daly's shake lower back in the event that they could detect a clean storefront to open in ... with a bit of luck quickly.

I have spent numerous years working in restaurants and we always used ice to clean the grill. So therefore I would have to say NO.

i doubt it. I see how you might think so because of the temperature difference, but it's a grill, not glass. Cold meat goes on it all of the time.

Yes it is possible for the metal to crack. However it is after years and years and years of that happening.

I think not. I seen that done by cooks when I was a waitress. To steam things. They are industrial strength.
