Pretty upset, in fact that's just plain sick.
And yeah (to echo Marie) football, a dolphin is a mammal.

The dolphins are killed (and i'm assuming this is japan since this goes on regularly there) because the dolphins compete for the food sources that are used by the japanese. While i think that wild species can be managed, we also need to manage our own populations to be in harmony with nature. we cannot keep expanding our population and taking all the food and leaving nothing for competing species.

What species of dolphin is that? It doesn't look to be the typical bottlenose variety.

Animal cruelty happens to all types of animals, not just marine mammals. It is sad and horrifying. Consider donating to an organization that fights things like this, like the ASPCA or the WWF.

what is the purpose of dolphin hunting?

nobody eats them, nobody wears them, nobody uses them for an aphrodisiac, so why are they doing it?
