They are right... Its an octagon. If u have trouble finding the angles inside an octagon, let me show u the steps:

Total internal angles of an octagon = (n-2)*180
(where n = 8 for an octagon)

1 angle = (n-2)*180/n
= (8-2)*180/8
=135 degrees

Draw out the octagon and then draw straight lines inside the octagon to get that 5 pointed star. If u do not understand, try drawing a pentagon and get a 5 pointed star 1st. Its the same idea. Good luck!

Using a compass, draw a circle as large as you want the star to be.

Using a ruler, draw a diameter through the circle. This line will determine the orientation of your star.

Using the compass again (set to the radius of the circle), tic off two arcs, starting at the end of the diameter. This gives you points at 60° and 120°.

Bisect the second arc by striking intersecting arcs above it, using the points arrived at above as centers. Draw a second diameter using this point and the center of the circle.

Now bisect the angles formed by the two diameters. This will give you 8 equally spaced points around the circle.

Connect alternate points to form the 8-pointed star.

You can draw another interesting star by connecting every third point

I would draw a square, then turn the page and draw another one, that is probably the easiest way to do it
