Just saw the movie. Was wondering what the actual reasoning to why he called himself the Zodiac. I checked on zodiackiller.com and they say there's a bunch of different theories on why he called himself Zodiac.

Becuase the code that he wrote them in was from a book called the Zodiac Alphabet or something like that. I remember Jake Gyllenhaal saying that when he was talking to Robert Downey Jr. in the bar and he was telling him about how he went to the library.

He started calling himself The Zodiac just because the press gave him that nickname from the begining.
The first letters he wrote to the police were signed just as "A friend".
Press gave him that nickname because this serial killer created a sign languaje in which he used well known Astrological characters and signs.
I studied serial killers for several years: the Zodiac is my favourite. He was the most intelligent serial predator ever seen.
He was against everyone, his target was Mankind.

He was supposedly into occult and used zodiac symbols, but he also used scientific and mathematical symbols. He fashioned his trademark symbol from his Zodiac brand watch which he wore in accounts by a few survivors of his attacks.

why does any killer call hi self anything? It as far as my opinion ,goes is because they are looking for some kind of recognition. Without the press they wouldn't be anybody.
