I'm not certain, however, I believe that if the two inner ends attract each other and the two outer ends attract each other, you can assume that both are permanent magnets rather than temporary, as if only one was permanent, it would attract both ends. Obviously if both were temporary there would be no magnetism.

No. Like to like repels. Opposites attract, so the positive pole attracts the negative pole and vice versa.

No they dont opposites attract. Magnetic fields point out of North and point towards south.

which gets you thinking and to realize that when the compass point North, they are actually pointing the South in the magnetic world.
