Part 2 of this question is:
If you killed the snake after it had eaten the chicks, could you cut it open and save the chicks?

snakes strangle their pray by squeezing them, that also crushed their bones, and they sufficate them by haviing their mouth aroung their face. it will surely be dead. they wouldnt eat something and let it be "alive" inside of it. plus its stomach acid, but it would be dead no matter what.

dont gut a snake alive just to save soemthing that'll be dead no matter what, yes, its sad 4 the chicks, but also cruel for the snake

Most likely the chicks would have been dead before the python ate them. I have never heard or read of any snake eating live prey. Too dangerous to the snake. If by some strange chance the chick were alive, which I HIGHLY doubt. they would have suffocated and crushed by the snakes swallowing action and movement to the stomach.

Snakes kill their prey before eating it. Constrictors such as carpet snakes will crush the animal first or, if it is small, kill it by biting it. Carpet pythons have big mouths and good teeth even though they are not venomous. Once the chick or whatever is being eaten you can be certain it is dead.

!; Not so long, maybe a couple minutes at most, if they were even alive when swallowed, whole does not necessarily mean alive.

2: you'd have to be pretty quick if it it even worked at all.
