Treating this mess in Iraq like a football game is about the level attained by the administration and its supporters. As more and more responsible Republicans are raising serious concerns about keeping our guys and ladies struggling in the middle of a religious civil war where there is no "victory", it should be clear that nailing objections to the war up on the 'liberal' flagpole is pure-D ignorant. You've got to read more than the Drudge Report and listen to other voices than the Fox folks. Halliburton, Dynco, Boeing and Lockheed are the only 'winners' in this war...they're shoveling gold into their coffers while families are shoveling dirt over their dead kids. Theft, chicanery, lies, subterfuge, torture...deriving 'victory' out of those dark things is highly unlikely. Study more!

Washington is suddenly convulsed by a debate that should have taken place three years ago, and the sleeping giant known as the American public is finally awakening to the deceptions that led to war. Emotion, instinct, and other proclivities may be the driving force behind support or opposition for war, but reason and logic are the means by which we try to prove the correctness of our views. No matter how heartfelt, the arguments in favor of the Iraq war are almost always specious and riddled with fallacious reasoning. On a matter so grave, that should be unacceptable to the American people. Judging from the polls, it is.
You speak of liberals "rooting against victory" while you want victory. Is that stark opposition truly our only choice? Or has your party painted itself into a rhetorical corner with its polarized talk of victory and defeat? Isn't it possible that you have created a nightmare of words from which we cannot wake up? I don't regard the prudent preservation of American lives and treasure as a "defeat" but rather as a sensible acknowledgment of the reality principle. Not all of our desires, hopes, and ideals can come to pass. That is the human condition.
There are now no good options in Iraq, so we are forced to choose among bad options. There's only one of the bad options that will save the lives of our young men and women and save our country billions of dollars, not to mention bringing home the National Guard so we will have some protection if we're attacked again. Think about it.
And one more thing: why is it OK with you that our brave military people are killing and getting killed in 130 degree heat while the entire Iraqi government has GONE ON VACATION? Don't you support our troops?

If you went to college, you would know that the concept of "victory," particularly in war today, is totally arbitrary. How *victorious* of us to bomb and destroy a country - then PAY to rebuild it! How victorious that we kill massive numbers of civilians who didn't want anything to do with this mess, but only wanted to LIVE. Brilliant.
We're doing just fine in the war, but it's never going to be "won." It's going to be another Vietnam. Wasn't that more than obvious from the start? Der.

I wouldn't place a label on all those that seem to root against a victory in Iraq as liberals. They are not only liberals but moderates, and even conservatives. Everyone here is entitled to their own opinion of the war and I have mine. I believe that those that want us to leave Iraq now at this point don't have an understanding of what we are fighting against or simply are too wrapped in the idealistic thought of "can't we all just get along" type of thought to see the big picture.
If we leave now we just continue to nurture the belief that all of our enemies have of the US, that we are a soft nation, we are unwilling to make the commitment necessary to achieve victory. Honestly you have to respect the terrorists resolve, they will do whatever is necessary to defeat the US, they would fight to the last man, woman or child. We on the other hand have lost, by comparison, just a handful of our soldiers and the public loses its resolve even though it strengthens the resolve of our own military. We are a soft nation and it shows, when our headlines for over 2 weeks were asking "Who is Anna Nicole's baby's father?" and the American public is glued to the TV to find out it that signifies how far the mighty have fallen.
Back to point here. If you ask our own soldiers what some of the biggest regrets they have about the war in Iraq they will tell you that not finishing the job they started is one as well as having 90% percent of the media report on nothing but the negative in Iraq.
With that statement about the media it brings up this minor point. I saw one post about quit watching FOX news which is ironic when they are the one channel out of what, about 6 or 7 that is actually not liberal and I wouldn't classify them as conservative either, moderate with right leanings yes but by no means conservative.
In the end in my opinion it all comes down to the fact that If you and other people out there think that if we leave radical Islamic jihadists alone they will leave us alone then you are naive. If we leave the middle east now all that will do is make these terrorists stronger.
Here is what Ayman al-Zawahri, al-Qaida's No. 2 man said recently. Ayman al-Zawahri last month announced that Americans must choose: Convert to Islam or continue to receive acts of terror. Zawahri's threat is based on a saying of the Prophet Muhammad as written in Sahih Al-Buchary, a central book of Salafi Islamic teaching. This hadith, or fundamental concept, states: "I have been ordered by Allah to fight and kill all mankind until they say, 'No God except Allah and Muhammad is the prophet of Allah' (Hadith Sahih)."
With this being said not all Muslims want to kill or commit acts of terrorism against against those that do not believe in the Islamic faith but there is a majority of those that do and those are the ones we fight against and the war in Iraq is just one of the many battle fronts that we are engaged on.

Dude, we're not trying to win the surge. The surge is just a short-term tactic to try to change the direction of the civil war in favor of the failed Iraqi government.
Liberals aren't 'rooting against victory in Iraq', they are rooting in favor of a sane resolution to a failed US invasion that is completely beyond the management capabilities of the Bush administration.
You may be willing to lose 10,000 soldiers in Iraq only to walk away in disgrace. Liberals would rather lose 5,000 soldiers and leave with some semblance of resolution.

I guess John Warner (R-Virginia) is a liberal. I guess four star retired general William Boyd is a liberal rooting against victory. I guess over 60 percent of America is rooting against victory. You just don't get it. Military victory in Iraq is impossible. You can not use military force to build a decent society. End of story.

To reinforce the facts, the surge IS working already, even Hillary let it slip that there's less violence now. On top of that, the surge is allowing better training of the Iraqi military, which is now significantly helping coalition forces. On top of that, Sunni militia, which once considered the US the enemy, are now helping soldiers to get rid of terrorists.

What I'd like to see is someone in the Bush administration define what would constitute a win. And, by the way, I'm not rooting against America. I do want to see an end to this spectacular disaster in foreign policy before many more of our soldiers are sacrificed.

You are deluded, if you think we can win this war, the only chance the soldiers should have, is to come home safe and forget, the stupid George Bush war.
