You are Indian & India based but the reply till now has been given to your questions are from non Indians, who are neither aware of Indian society nor the Indian laws relating to your question. Article 14 of the Indian constitution providing equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory of India has be further qualified by article 15 which speaks about discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. But in this article itself there is provision relating to women & children which allows the State to make special provisions for them. What was the reason that women were kept as a special category by the framer of the constitution was because of illiteracy, backwardness, poverty, discriminating behavior towards them, custom & usage followed because of religious ethos, etc. Women have throughout been considered weaker sex because of their physical built & treated by men as a second hand person. They have been always debarred from equal education, inheritance, job employments in the society. After their marriage they were been treated as a machine for making babies & nothing else. In order to improve the educational, economic, social, legal conditions of all women in the society special provisions were made to bring them at a level of equality with the men. In doing so for the last 60 years the State/Government of India forgot that by making special provisions in various laws relating to human relationship in India they not only brought Indian women at a level equal to men but exceeded that limit of equality & gave them more then equal rights, you may call it political greed or over enthusiasm on their part but this fact cannot be denied. Now what all see when come across those provisions specially made for the women in India are being misused by them for their advantage & for ulterior motives only. No doubt many women in India are still deprived of their rights in the society specially in remote places & villages because the social & legal awareness has not reached them because of illiteracy or poverty or religious practice or social awareness or lack of communication facilities etc. The State rather bringing these socially backward women in the main stream are more bothered about the women who have advanced & are even better placed then men in the society. This we see is happening in the society where we live & discuss this topic. Why a woman is provided maintenance or alimony if she is educated, working & having means of livelihood, only because she is a woman & is not supposed to do so? Why so? If she is being provided equality in education, job opportunities & salaries or business avenues, why the say she is not supposed to work & earn her livelihood, just because she is a woman, thats very funny. I fully agree that certain provisions relating to domestic violence should be made for protecting women in the society, but what about if a domestic violence is inflicted on men by their women counter parts? Section 498A of the Indian Penal code relating to cruelty towards women by their husbands for any reasons including dowry demand, but what about if wives indulge in inflicting cruelty towards their husband’s, specially when it has been held by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in numerous cases that filling wrong criminal complaint against the husband & his other family members should be considered as cruelty towards him & let this be a ground to grant divorce to him on the basis of cruelty, but why no criminal provision against the wife for filling a wrong criminal complaint against her husband. Dowry demand is wrong, getting dowry is wrong & we hear so many cases relating to this, but how many times we hear about cases filled against the parents or other relatives of the bride for giving dowry when the provisions relating to Anti Dowry Act clearly hold them as much guilty as person asking & getting dowry from his wife. A man indulge in sex with a married woman against the consent of her husband will be charged for adultery under section 497 of the Indian Penal Code, but the married woman will not be charged as the co-accused in such case. What it means a married man if does such a sexual act with another married woman he face criminal charges for adultery but the married woman will go scot free, isn’t this not clear case of discrimination? No doubt the nature/God created women the most beautiful creature in the world to be loved, adored & possessed with pride, but even the nature/God would not have wished any sought of discrimination between men & women, if this is so its only its men made issue which only men can ratify.

Well, that's a lot of questions, I would say that as we are trying to get equality between the sexes they should be treated the same, but that means that they should be paid the same for the same job. They should be treated the same in welfare schemes. They should be treated the same in most situations. Of course, there are times they will not be, men, no matter how equal they want to be, men can always carry more than woman, it's a fact of nature, men are stronger, can't change that.
In a relationship the two should be equal, both pay for all parts of living expenses, cooking, cleaning and shopping, or split it up so that it's done equally. Both parties should work, providing there are no children, and, both should contribute to living together. Different story if a child is involved.
Alimony depends on which one works, who makes more money, if there are kids. It's not necessary that he pays the alimony.
Yes, a man is responsible for protecting a woman, it has nothing to do with equality. A man is stronger than a woman, it's just the nature of the beast. But that's a protection as in going out, so the woman doesn't get mugged, I think it's only right, a man should still be a gentleman.
As far as your comments about laws: laws should not be made in favor of women and they should be gender neutral. And beauty should not sway a justice. And of course a man and a woman who commit the same crime should get the same punishment.

Women and men should be treated the same way in the law. Fact is, they're not, women pose as victims, which is why in all but 3 states in the union, a woman has never been given the death penalty, despite committing far more heinous crimes than many men given the penalty. Why/ Because it CAN'T be her fault, it was her childhood, her upbringing, what the victim did to her, she was mentally unsound, the same defense s h i t that's keeping women from being equal and men from being human. Women almost unanimously win in family court, because of a general assumption that women make better parents. Women are 40% more likely to murder thier children as single parents than men. That's not fact enough though, he's the father so he MUST have abused the children, the mom, SOMEONE, cause he's the "agressive male". Same old s h i t that keeps us from moving toward equality. I think for financial issues, women should be held responisble in the same ways as men. Men, on avarage, make more per year, however, that avarage man works 12% more hours than a woman for 8% more pay. Also, he's more likely to choose a dangerus, dirty, or physical job, because he's "man enough" for it. That's why the job of librarian is so sought after, yet so poorly payed. Quiet, safe, physically unchallenging, and clean. Women, by and large, want this, which is why librarians less than garbage collectors. I believe that equality needs to be sought. Not retribution, not "turning the tables" and making men the weaker sex. I believe we should work for equality, and judge peoiple soley on character and merit, not on genetallia. That's really the only difference.

In any profession or professional situation no person should gain special treatment. This should be especially true in the "blind eye's" of the law. In social settings, of course women should be treated differently then men. And men should be treated differently then women. Women and Men are different. This treatment should always have the respect each gender deserves. Most important though is that neither gender should be humiliated, abused, or discouraged or told they should do something because they are the ______ . Nor should they expect to be treated or behave in a certain way because they are a _______. It upsets me more that your dad just didn't go and clear off you car because he wanted to do something nice for you. but it shows a basic difference in men and women. Your dad thinks you should be self sufficient and your mom wants to be care taking of you. Sounds like a good healthy balance that the PC world is trying to destroy.

No special treatment. If they choose a professional life where they don't have babies and take loads of time off, they should get paid like a man. If they decide to take maternity leave and leave work early due to family stuff and taking little Jimmy to a soccer game, they should be paid less. Why should the men have to cover the extra load and be paid the same?

wow...you're talking about women and family then you change your tone to talk about murder...gee...and the answer is it depends on the jury.and how "they" see the case. Although the judge can override the jury's decision, normally the judge does not do that.
