A friend of mine goes online and after a while loses his dial up connection. He is using earth link, any ideas anyone?

Well, is the phone ringing after it's disconnected? If so, you need to disable call waiting in your dial up configuration. Contact your phone company to obtain the number code you may need.

yes... get with the times and get high speed internet lol. With dial-up you are depending on a lot to keep your internet connection steady. If there is interference on your phone line then it can cause the connection to drop. If you only have 1 line sometimes if someone calls it will kick you offline. Older lines could also do it. Another thing is to watch your idle time. A lof ot dialup modems and settings disconnect after you idle for so long. Dial-up is just so unreliable and better to just go with high speed internet.

Check Internet Explorer tools/connections/properties/advanced and turn off disconnect after (normally 20) minutes.

After awhile without use, dial-up automatically disconnects itself in case you forgot.

thats the way the provider does it or u may have the choice to set to your time.

yes that is what dial up normally does, there is notinh wrong with it.

he may have a lousy connection, spyware or virus.
