Virtue is a talent or quality which is innate. Some of what contributes, expresses and enhances it can be learned, but not the attitude of the soul. Ethics is a discipline which is learned. It is the science of human behaviour and right action.
One learns from the study of ethics the differences between virtue and vice. One can study Aristotle's Nichomachean Ethics, the Analects of Confucius, Kant's Foundation of the Metaphysics of Morals, the Tao Te Ching of Lao Tzu, or any other of hundreds of systems of ethics, but unless one begins with at least some modicum of virtue all that is learned is meaningless. Abraham Lincoln said, "Show me a man who has no vices, and I'll show you a man who has d^ m>ed few virtues."
Everyone has both virtue and vice, but the balance is not equal in all.
Some are more disposed to virtue, others to vice. Virtue can be enhanced and vice can be controlled. The study and practice of ethics aids this.

Academic studies define everything, study everything, but you'll only get anything out of it if you think for yourself. Virtues are usually defined by the beholders and are questionable. "Ethics" are sometimes also defined by the beneficiaries - often opportunistically in commerce. But I believe real Ethics are basically rational. They are the lessons of conduct found by experience and critical thought to work towards they greatest good of all. The more universal (globally and across species) the more true. And the more self-enforcing amongst intelligent humans (of which there seems too few). They don't need supernatural beings or divine tablets - only observation and critical thought. It can help to have someone who has already explored them, to discuss them with - but they are open to any intelligent being, I believe. You learn by thinking - not by rote. It's more deeply convincing.

I always try to treat everyone that I meet with kindness. I help others as much as I can. I help animals and pass on the word that animals are important and are a bit part of this planet. Be kind to family members even if they are not to you.

We are born as animals. Being Human is learned. The most basic rule I have found is the golden rule.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
This rule is found in many traditions and languages.

Everyone learns that, it only depends on people if they apply it on their lives.
