My boss told me earlier in the week I was off Today and Friday. He called me at 5 pm today and asked if I would come in and work tomorrow. I already had made plans and that was too short of a notice and so I told him I made plans. I have to work this weekend too. He kinda seemed disappointed but that was too short of a notice.

What would you have done?

I would have done exactly what you did. If I had made plans, i wouldn't go to work on such short notice. On the other hands, if it was a life threatening thing, i would go to work, but ONLY FOR A WHILE. No if ands or buts.

Ha ha, buts...

Depends on the plans I'd made. If no one else was depending on me, I might consider going to work -- IF the boss was willing to make it worth my while; OT, cash bonus, or an extra day of vacation --- I figure, at that point, it becomes a negotiation to determine how bad he needs me to work.

You were right to tell him you couldn't come in, don't feel guilty at all. Bosses need to try and fill gaps, it sounds like someone else called in sick or something, but that isn't your problem. Just enjoy your time off and make sure you get your time off.

ah its his problem if he's disappointed, he told you to take off and then he called you on a late notice to make you work. No, u did the right thing, cuz u dont want them to think that ur there toy to take advantage of.

Well I would have done the same thing you did, you have a life and it does not evolve around your work and that is just to bad for your boss, he should not depend on you.

you did the right thing, if you feel that you are in need for a little RnR, and also that you feel you have made enough money to fit the budget that week...then you are in the clear, although disappointed...he should be able to understand the reason to your situation.

I would have done the same thing if the above qualified for me.

i was supposed to have worked 2nite but i called in
i needed a "mental health" day and i dont feel guilty about it
they will get by in my or your absence dont worry about it
employers will work you to death if you let them
personally i would never have answered the call when i seen it was work calling
you done the right thing dont let work rule your life or youll have no life

it does seem like short notic but are you casual? tell them you had made plans this time but if they need you to try to give you more warning and say you will try to be available next time.
