Seriously, who watches it? Who is a fan, other that 10 year old girls? Huh? What person do you know watches the WNBA?

I don't know a single person. Anyone? Why is this crap still on TV?

I never said I was better than them, of course I'm not. They would school me, but, still, who watches them?

Hey Seth,

i was watching Sportscenter and the Little League World Series (so they kept interuppting the game with updates) but in one of the highlights- appparently: Charles Barkley does? What the heck?

Someone once offered me courtside seats for the LA Sparks and i was like: "heck no!"

Nickster

PS: No disrespect girls but watching the WNBA is like watching bad High School Basketball. The game is way to slow and God forbid someone dunks so that they have to stop the game and celebrate for 45 minutes...

I know many people who watch it. Maybe I can clear a few misconceptions up.

Title 9 has nothing to do with it. That is only for colleges that get federal money. The WNBA was started because there was a considerable following for it much as there was when the NBA first started. Before the WNBA, there was the ABL, which is why there is the mutli-colored ball.

As for boring, the same thing is said about the Spurs. There are teams in the WNBA that focus on defense and using all of the 24 sec shot clock. Then there are teams like Phoenix and Seattle that want to score. One game was 111 to 101 between the two, and they play 8 less minutes then their male counter parts in the NBA. Only 10 minute quarters instead of 12. So it really just depends on what style of basketball you like to watch for it to be considered entertaining. You have to find the right team.

Most of the Marketing is done to families. WNBA has great role models and great fan interaction with a low cost. I get tickets in Detroit for $40 and I’m 4 rows back from midcourt. The players always take time to talk with fans sign autographs. It's an excellent way for dads and daughters to bond and for any player to learn what good ball movement and spacing is.

And it’s just good solid basketball. If you like the strategy of the game, you'll like the WNBA. If you like high flying dunks, watch the AND1 tour. I'll take the scoop shoot over a dunk any day. I like finesse more than power. I compare it to boxing. You are going to get a knock out with a heavy weight (NBA) but not as much movement as compared to the feather weights. Dunking is about power. Scoop shoot is about finesse.

Take a look at this clip and let me know if you still think the WNBA is boring

This is just one player, not even the best in the league. Curious about the rest?

My older brother in Phoenix says that only lesbians (no offense intended, but is there any "P.C." term that could have been used instead) and fathers with young daughters attend games in person, so my brother must have attended at least one WNBA game.

I guess girls and women as a general rule watch primarily the TV games.

My older brother maintains that the best boys high school team could beat a WNBA team. That may or may not be true. Don't know.

My older brother, who does have problems, says just never mention WNBA around him or don't bother talking to him.

Personally, I have been to several WNBA games and find them entertaining as you have two teams playing at the same competitive level. It isn't like the WNBA players should be slam dunking the ball on every other play like NBA players. As a general rule, I would say that a WNBA player is much more fundamentally sound than a NBA player particularly as a general rule WNBA players can shoot free throws.

I am thinking about going to a WNBA game this coming Saturday afternoon. Probably won't though, we will see.

Having known Cynthia Cooper when she lived in San Antonio and had her brother Eric Cooper living with her as Eric Cooper was playing college ball in San Antonio gave me an initial interest in the WNBA as I met Cynthia Cooper a few years before the WNBA started with Cynthia Cooper being the MVP of the WNBA the first two years of the WNBA, the leading scorer of the WNBA the first three years of the WNBA, and on the WNBA champion Houston team of the WNBA the first four years of the WNBA.

Cynthia was playing in the WNBA in her mid to late 30s after a long career mainly in Italy including a Gold at least at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea plus I would imagine that she was on a few other Olympics basketball teams as well.

Amazing that in the 1990s, that both Cynthia Cooper and Mia Hamm lived in San Antonio; although, probably not at the same time as I believe that Mia Hamm's first husband lived in San Antonio in the late 1990s.

They are good athletes but I have to agree with you, no one I know watches the WNBA. I personally tried to tune in a couple times but I wasn't really drawn to the action like I am to the NBA.

i watch from time to time. They do run more plays rather than pick and roll or motion offense. It's pretty interesting. but this is only when there's no nba games on, it simply isn't as exciting. But i've heard that they are more fun in person. and no doubt, they are very talented and could school plenty of male basketball players. As for why it's on TV. title 9?

of course a man asked this question...all those women in the WNBA would school your a** anyday...plus the women are more dedicated and actually try to play the game...the men jog up the court because all they care about is their money...its obvious when players score 80+ points in a game they are selfish and not team players...u would never see that kind of selfish play in the wnba...my point is the women are way better so stop dissing on them!!! i like watching women's basketball...i hate watching the nba...i only watch ncaa men's bball!!!
