I don't respect anyone's views, just their right to freely express those views.

I don't automatically grant respect to anyone anywhere. Respect must be earned. What I do is try to keep an open mind and listen what other people have to say before making a decision on the subject at the time. Additionally, I support the right of all people to hold and express their own opinions, even when they may be in stark contrast to my own.

Respect is earned - some people agree with my views, but are so ignorant, it's hard to respect what they believe - and others, I disagree with completely, but they come from a path of thought, so I can still respect them, even if I don't agree.

Probably.

The liberals want to accept a policy of defeat and withdraw - the conservatives generally want America to defeat this ideology. There's no middle ground there.

For example, it is Harry Reid's propensity to spew out out public statements that America has lost the war - and at a time when our troops are still in harms way - I cannot possibly respect this man's view.
I respect his right to say whatever his liberal, pea brain can transmit to his mouth - but I cannot respect his statement or view.

I respect other views and opinions. I have some very good friends who are extremely liberal. We disagree, but respect each other because our views are based on how we see FACTS - not emotion.

I *don't* respect the snarky BS that goes on here - "all Republicans are _____" or "Bush is dumb". And the term "libtard" makes me furious - it's pathetic to insult the mentally handicapped.

Basically, my opinion is that if you can't back up your argument, stfu.

no i have seen many who attempt to respond in a thoughtful factual manner and respect opposing views that are civil.

most of them are probably like me and ignore the juvenile or vitreous 'questions' as they are a waste of time and effort.

I show as much respect to people as they show me.

No, dear. I respect the views of other people, and to do that here requires MUCH gumption, for there is MUCH asininity on this site.
