I infrequently use tablature because it weakens my knowledge of music theory applications. While such a practice can increase the capability of knowing the entire fretboard by note placement, it can hinder progress in the theory of notation that is universal and accessable.
Tablature has helped me learn the fretboard inclusively, but I rarely depend on that method when learning a new song.
