I doubt if your average Democrat thinks this way. Most of the ones I know are ordinary people in every since of the word. Now in the case of the extreme left the answer is yes. They believe to their very core that they are more intelligent, more informed, more enlightened and better in every way than us everyday lowly humans. Their opinion is that they have all the answers and if we won't willingly follow their self perceived brilliance then we must be legislated into doing so for our own good.

definitely. In fact most of us are conceited enough that we feel that we are better than the average. It is good for our self esteem. In fact I encouraged my children to pick a field where they were sure they were better than the average bear. I beleive it worked very well with two of them, but the other one still has self esteem problems. Do you really want to feel that you are below average in all respects.

People choose their party because of their own life experience. They pick the party that they feel best represents their needs whatever they may be. It has nothing to do with being better or worse.

Democrats believe that all people are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I personally believe that most people in this country have failed miserably in their obligations as citizens and have tolerated a creeping, and now rapidly progressing, dictatorship. Since huge majorities supported Bush and his illegal, immoral war based on lies, few democrats can claim to be better than any one else in this country.
Why a dictatorship? Read some of Bush's executive orders on the white house web page and learn that he has given himself the right to take over every branch and every level of government (even tribal) and to seize the property of any american, on his own determination (not a courts) that they are a threat to his criminal enterprise in Iraq. Read about KRB's 385 million dollar contract to build detention camps in America. Read about AT&T's diverting all our emails into govt servers that scan them rapidly for thought crimes - this case is in the 9th circuit right now.

This one doesn't.
Mind you, I'm also not a political bigot.
Republicans are fellow Americans with different goals, patriots, like myself, in most cases (the cases where they put their country ahead of their personal ideology, whether I agree with their conclusions or not.
