Start with a small local theater group where you can learn from the ground up. Most cities big and small have such groups. Learn the craft then if you feel the talent and confidence in yourself you can go after it. You also might seriously consider an acting school. Forget about the glamor aspect of it. Expect lots of hard work and failures. If the turn downs throw you then forget all about acting. The successful actors you see on screen are really a small percentage of the total actors out there. Most of them make so little money that they need to work side jobs just to get by until they get that "big break". My stepfather had a Coffee Shop in Greenwich Village called the Gaslight Cafe during the late 50's and early 60's. Barbara Streisand was one of his waitresses. Bill Cosby was a porter! Brando and Wally Cox didn't have a dime between them. All were living from hand to mouth in shared coldwater flats. They made it eventually but so many don't. Good luck to you.

Hi,

just make sure you build your base first. Get yourself some good training, study the industry, bone up on some basic business and networking skills. All these are things you'll find in my free ebook called What It Takes To Become An Actor.

In my short career thus far as an actor, I have seen so, so, so many youngsters with stars in their eyes who have just leaped into the industry without training, without knowing what to do, who to talk to, how to get an agent, not knowing how to, or the importance of networking and not knowing how to promote themselves and get their work seen. After a while they either quit and go do something else or the struggle along for years working once every now and then because they believe that that is the way an acting career is supposed to be.

Build your base first! I put together a 36-page ebook on getting started in an acting career. It's called What It Takes To Become An Actor. You can go to http://www.actingcareerstartup.com , sign in on the right and download it for free. It will help you get started. I move around the New York area. There are some folks here who are well-versed about what you would need to do in Hollywood.

Also check out these pages that you might find helpful:

There was an actor on David Lettermen a few years back... i can't recall his name - but he said that he was 23 when he decided to start acting and so he looked for an agent in the yellow pages! I know this is a stretch but it's interesting that he took a leap and made it! Anything is possible!

it will take a lot of determination and a lot of hard work and it will probably take quite a bit of time. the way you start is by acting in school, church and community plays, then you should read books on acting and all the plays you can get your hands on, then you need a mentor, then you will need professional acting classes and some day when you are an accomplished enough actor you can try to get an agent. click on my name and read my profile and write me at my aol address if you have more questions.
