In my view, Nixon had only 1 great accomplishment of his presidency before he pissed it all away on criminal behavior and paranoia.
He opened China to the west. History will eventually, if not already, look on that moment as the beginning of the end for Commie China.
Other than that, Nixon gets the lowest of low ratings. He broke the law, violated the constitution, and was forced to resign rather than be the first sitting President to be successfully impeached and then prosecuted.

Great leaders in American history do not commit felonies against their own people-wittingly. Nixon did such. Therefore, no matter what success he may have had as a leader in foreign affairs, etc, his felonious acts destroyed his presidency and all accomplishments thereof.

MY views of Nixon are bad, when he was telling the American public on the radio we were not in Cambodia, my buddies and I were under fire in that very country. How can you believe anything about your leader when he does this to you.

Nixon for all his faults was a man of vision. Probably his most important contribution was opening up China to world trade. I think history will treat him better than most people think.

People say Nixon was very ambitious, brilliant, and intelligent...but on the other hand, he had moral problems...he was always too suspicious...on everybody including his closest partners...
