Water..... called the "universal solvent" because it dissolves more substances than any other liquid. Water is unique, it is the only natural substance that is found in all three states -- liquid, solid (ice), and gas (steam) at the temperatures normally found on Earth. Earth's water is constantly interacting, changing, and in movement. Water has a high specific heat index. Water is critical to nourishing and fostering life. Humans, who can last a month without food, die after a week without water; it contributes to agriculture, industry, manufacturing, power generation and transportation.

Well, I can live without fire, as long as I have a flat stone and a hot sun when necessary. But I can't live without water. Even though the way we're treating the Earth you'd think we could.
