No. Not all jurisdictions require you to sign a traffic ticket. In some states, they require you to sign a ticket simply as a written promise that you will either pay it or show up in court to answer the charges. Other states prefer to have their cops just give you the ticket and issue you a warrant for your arrest if you ignore it, and dispense with such formalities. I live in NY, and although I've only gotten 2 traffic tickets here, I never had to sign any of them.

No, the signature usually doesn't stand for the fact that you were the one that actually received the ticket. When the cop shows up in court, he can testify that you are the one he stopped and gave this ticket to.

Sounds like an simple oversight on his part, but not one that invalidates the ticket. When you sign the ticket, that basically stands as your acknowledgement of the ticket and your bond that you will appear in court.

No.. they have your information so they know that you got the ticket.. also keep this in mind. in other states (I am in Louisiana) you can get a ticket from a camera at a red light and they send that to your house so those never get signed!!!

No. You don't have to sign for the ticket. You will probably get a citation and a fine. Get out your checkbook.
