Actually it's not a failed policy & the general statement of the American people wanting out would also not be correct. There are those who still support him & the Iraq policy.
Plus sticking to something you believe in rather than ditching & running (the way most liberals do) shows that he is not worried about what the lifelong gov't power base thinks of him.

He's doing his best, actually. The problem is that we didn't commit enough troops or up-front resources to the effort, and it turned out to be a bigger mess than _anyone_ could have imagined.
I have no love at all for Mr Bush and his strange group of handlers, and impeachment wouldn't be a bad idea. But it might just be the case that this particular war is precisely what we have to be doing right now to deal with the problem of Islamic fundamentalism mixed with oil money. I'm not happy about it, and it is just agonizing to watch, but I do believe that we're keeping the armed might of Allah a lot busier than they'd anticipated.
If you listen closely, you'll hear the same sentiments from the Democrats in Congress. Iraq is the responsibility and problem for all of us, not just Mr Bush.

It takes foresight, cunning, and strategery to play a game ... GWB lacks all three, and now that Rove is gone, he's left to fend for himself.
Want to know what the next Republican mantras will be as the mess that is Iraq continues to worsen?
......Our efforts in Iraq were just and noble ... we did our part and performed admirably ... The Iraqis did not uphold their part of the bargain. The failure is all Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's fault. The Republican party is a victim of a broken partnership ... just as if we were a jilted spouse.
You are in grave danger and the Republican party is still your guardians and protectors .... Look at scary, scary Iran!!!
Forget this Iraq thing ... and our neglect of the Katrina victims ... and that we wanted to morph the entire Justice department for our own self-serving causes ... and that we illegally outed a CIA agent out of vegeance ... and that we continually seek to install our cronies into every facet of government ... and that we are accountable to no one.
Just vote for us.

It's the 'Defend America From The Threat Of Global Terrorism' game.
Got a better idea? Hey, I know! Let's all just go hang out at Starbucks, listen to some poetry and pretend the threats not out there. Woohoo! That sounds like fun.

He will be regarded as the Worst President in History. The only, and I mean ONLY, reason he is staying there is because he doesn't want to be considered that. He can forget it, because the moniker will stick...

I guess he feels like, since he was in office when the war began, he should see it through til his term ends or the war ends, whichever comes first.
