I lived across from a farmers field. He grew carrots. After he harvested the field it would leave many behind. So I go pick them up as a kid and sold them door to door. People said they made good soup carrots. I forget how much I sold them for? But was pretty successful at it. The field now is a big office complex.

Well as a kid I sold candy bars every year for some of the sports I played (I guess so they could pay for uniforms and equipment). That was like 15-20 years ago, I wouldn't suggest sending little kids to do that nowadays, it's too dangerous with all the psychos out there. Oh, but I guess I did pretty good, people would buy stuff just to help support the sports.

I was about 13 i sold candy bars, it was my job, i wanted money, and i did it....

It was great, i loved every minute of it, and it helped me with people skills, and sales techniques, and everything...

I used to call people on the phone for my father as well, when i was young, i loved it...

It helped me so much in life, i was home schooled, and it gave me the social skills i needed.

If you are young and want to do something to help yourself, for the future, and for fun, than this is it..

I bought a box or 2 at a time from Sams Club, and i would sell them for a dollar a piece, and i made a good profit, i would sell them in a matter of 2-4 days per 2 boxes, the boxes costed about 25 dollars, my parents gave me the 25 to start up...

I just went in my neighborhood and eventually i had people who were regulars waiting for my candy bars. Walk around door to door, and thats it
It was so much fun.

I tried to sell Star Wars figures door-to-door when I was a kid. I even told people I worked for Kenner.

I put a few gnawed-up units in a Kellogg's Sugar Pops bike tote and hit the streets. I didn't sell a single one.

Years ago, I tried selling Electrolux vacuums and also Encyclopedias. Never sold any of either. You have to have a tough hide to do this kind of work and be able to take big time rejection!! In this day and age, people just do not want to open their doors to strangers. Good Luck!!

I sold Fuller Brush and did fair. I sold Avon and did terrible. I am not a salesman. I don't like to sell things door to door.

10 years ago i actually bought a filter queen vacuum cleaner from a door to door salesman, but i knew it was a very good brand and i really needed a new vacuum. it was serendipitous.

i think that in the last 20 years, so many people have gotten home computers, that you can research and buy anything you want, the age of the door to door salesman has passed (except for students and their school fundraisers).

does anyone remember the I Love Lucy episode where she tries to sell vacuum cleaners door to door.

her pitch was to get someone to open the front door and she would throw in a hand-full of dirt and offer to vacuum it up. she would say, if my vacuum can't clean that up, i'll eat that dirt off your floor. so she went to the home, and threw in the dirt, but the homeowner had no electricity.

lol.

I once tried to sell 'Time' by going door-to-door.

I would ring the doorbell and when they answered, I would just stand there for a bit and do nothing.
Then I would say, "That'll be $25 dollars please."
When they got that puzzled look on their face, I would explain, "You just used Time. I'm selling it. $25. But, I like you. So I'll forgot about the state tax. $20."
Then they would try to close the door.
"Wait", I'd yell. "This isn't that cheap 'Made in Korea' Time. This is the high quality stuff. This is Swiss. And you can disagree with everything else I say, but you gotta give me this: The Swiss make a damn fine watch."

Put up a no solicitting sign. And stop answering your door. I did one time and it was a mistake. I bought a magaizing from one of those magaizine people and didn't receive the thing for 2 years, even though I called over and over again insisting on it. I got it eventually but took literally years. EDIT: I've heard my wife says this to people, "unless you plan on buying my children diapers and food the answer is no cause I don't think you want me spending money on frivoulous things especially when it comes out of my kids mouths, now do you?" We ended up putting a piece of paper on top of the doorbell saying, please don't ring, babies inside sleeping. and they at least started knocking and it stopped waking up the kids during naps and such. Or you can just say, "whatever it is, the asnwer is no" and then shut the door, simple and direct.
