LOL. Shahbarak and Tim G. have covered the good jokes, so I’ll have to resort to a serious answer…

It’s all a matter of culture and social signals.

My father was a military officer, so I lived overseas for several years of my childhood. As compared to the US, laughter was rare. People reacted to jokes or stories with a smile. In the United States people smile constantly--in greeting or to project an appearance of politeness. I took me a few years to get used to it, and truthfully, I still feel a bit foolish walking around grinning at everyone for no reason. :-D

All cultures use “gender typing”, which means that children are socialized to behave in a way that is acceptable for their gender. Girls are socialized to be more emotional and empathetic, which is why you have observed them laughing together so much more than men laugh together.

Further, laughing together is a sign of ease, of comfort. That is why many speeches or lectures begin with a joke; laughing together unites the speaker and the audience. Laughter is interpreted as a sign that two people have formed a connection and are interacting comfortably.

Finally, studies have shown that men and women truly do have different senses of humor. So it may appear to you that a woman is laughing for no reason.

I enjoy it very much when my wife makes me laugh. Most women have a different sense of humor from men but are of course still very funny. Everybody likes to laugh, and if somebody you like or care about makes you laugh then that person becomes even more important to you. Take care.

It's the only way they can usefully respond to the ridiculous behavior of men. That's why they laugh more amongst themselves than in mixed company. I speak as a man who has been greatly privileged by women.

Laughing, crying, and running all cause the brain to secrete a chemical called "endorphins". Endorphins are the body's natural form of morphine. They like getting high on endorphins. You might like to try it sometime.

That depends on the age group i guess, when little girls laugh its usually about something silly. if a middle aged women laughs, its usually about something silly also, and when an elderly lady laughs its probably because she outlived her husband.
