I have a 1995 Honda Civic LX, whenever I get up to around 2500 rpm's or above, there is a very noticeable rattle coming from the engine. I've taken it into our mechanic that works on foreigns, but he found nothing wrong with the engine.

yeah i had to cut my heat shield off, it was unbearable. I have a new rattle now, and i'm pretty sure it is a sticking valve, but i'll get to that when i rebuild the motor. Check your timing also make sure it is not pinging, which is the sound of pre ignition.

There are two distinct possibilities. The first is that the welds on the heat shield for the catalytic convertor in the exhaust system have broken. The second is that the material inside the converter is broken.

take the car back to the mechanic or anyone who has a lift and have them put the car up in the air with someone in it. Then have them start the car and run it at 2500 rpm. If its the converter you'll be able to hear it standing under the car.

Its not that common, but it really sounds like the problem on your car based on the ones I've seen. Seems that 2500 rpm is the speed that creates enough exhaust pressure to move the broken pieces inside the convertor around like popcorn in a popper.

If it is the converter you can get a non-Honda replacement converter for that car for less than $200 at most muffler shops.

Hope that helps

usually soething is inside the heater blower case-leaves mostly and or a mouse could have gotten in and started to build a nest in any event something is touching the blower fan
