so using y2-y1/x2-x1 = 3-2/1-4= -1/3 right? so what next? and why?does it involve y=mx+b?

Yes it does involve y = mx + b

m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) which you have done

so: y = (-1/3)x + b

Now just substitute in one of the points and solve for b. You can use either point since they should both give the same answer for b.

2 = -4/3 + b and b = 10/3

Find the slope of those two points, then take x and y in the equation and replace them with 4 and 2, then solve for the b. After that, you have y=(calculated slope)x+(calculated intercept)
