1. Because there has been a rise of falsely educated people thining they are dieing in the name of Islam, but are really just scumbags that make the rest of their religion look bad to the western world.

2. I have never heard that, and assume it isn't valid

3. Most likely not. Because it isn't just terrorists trying to get in it is a small selection of American citizens who create their own terrorist cell because they are denied entry by one of the major terrorist organisations. This is how the London bombings of 2005 were set up, a couple of Al Quaeda rejects thought that suicide bombing is the right thing, which it obviously isn't and the rest of the Islamic world does not support them.

4. It would not subside, It was growing in power before the US had anything to do with the middle east and now that they have troops there it has escelated the problem because more and more people are joining on the basis that they are opressed by Western powers such as the US. These people are not just terrorising the world to get rid of Israel alot of them want to create an Islamic caliphate comparable to the Ottoman Empire. If you dont know what that means you shouldnt be answering this question.

5. Their customs may seem far-fetched but it is their way of life and it has worked for thousands of years. Why should they change just because the west has? Perhaps the West should change its general view of these people, they are wonderful and intelligent and their land is beautiful. They should teach that in schools as opposed to "Hate everyone that is different".

In addition to what i have just wrote and after reading some of the other answers I would like to inform you all that Islam is oneof the most peaceful religions in the world and that they are extremely devoted people, we could learn a lesson from that. The terrorists are idiots that misinterperet the Quran

(1) Terrorists like Iraq. They can hide among the women and children while terrorizing them. We like the terrorists in Iraq because it's better to fight them there than here.

(2) I don't recognize the phrase, but I can think of an application. Terrorists don't hope for a military victory. They can't. They just want to be able to operate. When we leave, if they can maintain their activities, they'll say, "We won. The US is gone. We chased them out. Now, remember what we were able to do when they were here? Well they're no loner here to protect you." So, when they're on the ropes, that's when they step up activities. "See, the US thinks they have us. Ha!" And some of the people believe them (even some here in the US). So the harder they try, the more they feel the need to try to look strong. So, the worse it seems, the better it actually is. Also, perhaps it analogous to, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going." But that's just conjecture.

(3) Our borders are just lines on a map. People say we need to protect them, but nobody wants to take the steps necessary to do it.

I think the intelligence community is probably pretty well on top of things. But there's not much the government can do. If they round up all the suspected terrorists, they'll be "overzealous," "profiling," and probably "racially motivated," or worse, "attacking the Muslim religion." The public doesn't like those words. So the suspected terrorists wold get ACLU attorneys, probably get healthy settlements from the government, and be better funded terrorists--thanks to the people and the ACLU. Unfortunately, if the government waits and reacts to another attack, those same people would say, "sleeping at the post," "not doing their job," "a waste of tax-payer money." The government is damned if they do and damned if they don't.

(4) No. The terrorists want Iraq. Then, a la Hitler, the Middle East. Then, the world. But sometimes I think that maybe the terrorists want us in Iraq. If we leave, they will have no excuse for targeting the innocent. They won't stop doing so, but they know that it's going to raise the ire of the people. And the people have tasted freedom.

(5) I don't think it's Islam. The tenets of Islam are very similar to those of Christianity. As I said to a mentor who was helping me through the Qur'an, "The truth is true. It doesn't make any difference whether it's read in Arabic or English, or whatever language.

In the US we have established the separation of church and state. In some countries in the Middle East, the church IS the state. There are some religious leaders who see the people governing themselves as against Islam. But what I think many of them are worried about is the loss of power the clergy has held for centuries. Just like Hussein, when he tried to rally the Muslim nations to fight the US-led coalition in Desert Storm with the cry "jihad," so the fundamentalist religious leaders over there are doing the same.

For centuries these leaders have been able to dictate to the people what was the truth, what was untrue, what was good, what was bad, and the people believed it. I met an Afghani on line who said he was illiterate. I asked him if he could read the Qur'an. He assured me he could. He also spoke, read, and wrote in eight other languages besides Arabic. But he had been convinced he was illiterate. Now he knows he is not. In telling him that, I destroyed over 30 years of his being put down by his religious leaders.

But within the last 70 years, technology has become available to the people. They can hear a different "truth" on the radio, see it on TV and can almost interact with it on the Internet. They have come to see that some of the "truths" they have been given are not so true after all. I believe the religious fundamentalist leaders see that as a threat. Some certainly must honestly it's a threat to Islam. But I believe some just see their authority slipping away.

1. Mass media is the one that give that impression.

2. People become closer together in a bad situation.

3. No. Since the attacks were done with help from insiders.

4. An excuse to fight will be gone, but another excuse to fight will be created. Plus the elimination of Israel will be also used as an excuse to fight. Israel seems to be created so that there's an excuse to fight, the same goes for its future elimination.

5. The word 'modernizing' have be thrown around as if it's a good thing. Nevertheless there's only one thing that can't be changed in Islam, it's the Qur'an, of course each person interpret it according to each his/her own belief.

The present global problem against terrorism by inferior muslims is just a fulfillment of Biblical Prophecy in Genesis 17 to 21. God and the Bible becomes a lie if the prophecy concerning Ismael and his decendants as the worlds trouble makers will not be fulfilled.

1. I don't know about "intimately" (you must have a different definition of that word from mine), but Middle Eastern countries actively promote terrorism "in the name of Allah".
2. Say what? It must be a typo...
3. No doubt about it; no.
4. You've got to be kidding! That would just inflame the radicals to "move out" and conquer more territory.
5. Yes; they don't bother to read the Koram and like ignorant people everywhere, they are afraid of changes. Like the Left here, they like the status quo.

the connection to the middle east is entirely due to the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001.

4-no, that wouldnt be good enough for them. Heck they fight themselves all the time (i.e., the Palestinians, Iraqis)
5-islam is not a peaceful religion. jihad is not only a spiritual war, but a physical one against all infidels, anyone who isnt a Muslim.

Terrorist is different than muslims, off course - but the problem is most of the terorist often claimed that they are muslims and fight for islam !

Hitler succeeded in using propaganda, symbol, common enemy, basically hatrace - they were succeed - why ? perhaps because the german people before was in silence when Hitler was in the beginning to rise !
