I had an abortion too, and I lost weight straight away, but I was 20 weeks along, so my stomach had grown a bit. I had only gained 2 pounds during my pregnancy, and right when I woke up after my abortion I was skinny again. Being pregnant also makes you eat a lot, so after you get rid of the baby you don't want to eat as much as you did before because you don't have anything to feed.

It could be a combination of different things. I do agree that depression could have a factor in it. That is awful young to have to deal with such a serious situation. If she is losing an extreme amount of weight she may want to check with the Dr. to make sure everything is ok. I'm sure it has been a very difficult time for her and I don't want to give a lecture but I do hope she realizes that she should not be having unprotected sex especially at such a young age.

It could be any number of things, not necessarily related to the abortion's biological effects. A lot of Women choose abortion because their lives are not in good places. They aren't healthy or they aren't living healthy lives. The unintended pregnancy is like a wake-up call that they can't ignore. A LOT of Women turn their lives around following an unintended pregnancy. They may start eating better, taking better care of themselves, stop engaging in unhealthy behaviors, and all of this can have an effect on their weight.

The response to an abortion is very individual but most Women feel relief and view it as a new beginning. The abortion itself, though, probably did not trigger anything chemical if that's what you're asking.

Peace,
Jenn

an abortion probably doesn't have anything to do with her weight loss but she may be getting back to her pre-pregnancy weight. Some people actually lose more weight after giving birth, it could be stress. Tell your friend to use birth control or she will end up needing another abortion.

I've never had an abortion, but when i had a miscarriage I lost about 5 pounds initially. I had excess weight from my 1st baby and have pretty much lost all of that too. In all I have lost about 20 pounds. Our bodies just work like that.

im pretty sure that her abortion dosen't have anything to do with weight loss. At 15, a young girl probably is not ready for a responsibility like that. im not going to preach about my beliefs on abortion, for that was not the question.

If I were guessing I wouldn't think that abortion would have anything to do with weight loss. I agree with the rest of the post about depression. alot of people whom are depressed dont show it to everyone. She may be, and just putting on a happy face for everyone else.

Maybe you should talk with her and tell her your concerns. she may be wonting someone to talk to, because honestly you dont know how she feels only she does.

She's just dieting. Maybe trying to make herself over. Ask her. If she is losing weight and not trying to, then she needs to get checked by a doctor. It has nothing to do with the abortion.

Grief can cause loss of appetite. Also if she was further along, there is the baby weight to lose. It also depends if she was heavier to begin with, maybe now, with that decision there are other factors going on.
