Bush's speech was the first of two speeches on Iraq in the run-up to the Sept. 15 report. Next Tuesday, Bush plans to discuss the war in the context of its implications for the broader Middle East at the annual American Legion convention in Reno, Nev.
"Many are frustrated by the pace of progress in Baghdad, and I can understand this," Bush told an estimated 5,800 VFW veterans and others in a convention hall.
He cited some political progress, saying the Iraqi government has passed about 60 pieces of legislation, and that while it has not passed a law to share oil revenues among the Shiites, Kurds and Sunnis, revenues are being dispersed to the provinces. On the military front, Bush boasted that since the beginning of the year, U.S. troops have killed or captured an average of more than 1,500 al-Qaida terrorists and other extremists every month.

Actually his exact words were:
......."In Iraq, our troops are taking the fight to the extremists and radicals and murderers all throughout the country. Our troops have killed or captured an average of more than 1,500 al Qaeda terrorists and other extremists every month since January of this year.....
That seems odd since our own experts estimate al Qaeda terrorists number only around 5,000 total.
Our experts also place the percent of insurgents that are Saudi Arabian at around 45%.
Bush never states were he gets that 1,500 per month number from and I saw no generals or other military personal confirm any the info he stated.
So where is Bush getting that 1,500 per month number?
Total body count? And if they are dead how does he know they were indeed al Qaeda? Or insurgents? Or maybe just civilians caught in the cross fire?
The point is, Bush and his administration has lost all credibility, they have lost all trust from the American people. We've been lied to time after time after time.

That's great but how many total insurgents are there? It's hard to say that 12,000 dead insurgents means the Surge is working when the US military has no idea how many insurgents there are. Also, because the US military can't secure Iraq's borders 1000s of new terrorists come poring into Iraq all the time. No one, including the US military or Bush can know if the Surge is working or not.

More Importantly, Iraqi Security Forces, assisted by the US Military did that. Sorry, the surge worked, but it was a joint effort-the US was there in smaller numbers.

Why is the death of people good news? Whoever believes that Bush is a good president then they need to open their eyes and stop fooling themselves. Our country is in so much debt for the war that their is no way we will be getting our social secruity money when we really need it. The war in Iraq is not for terroism and it never was. It is for oil and oil alone. For all you Bush supporters out there I might have to inform you Bin Laden was not from Iraq. You were so quick to condemn Bill Clinton just because he got his dXXX sucked when in reality he is the only president in the last century to balance the national budget. Everyone needs to start using their brain and stop believing that killing is the "cure" to all problems. Those insurgents are people just like us, just with different beliefs. They deserve to die because of that?

12,000 insurgents?
If that's the case, why is the insurgency still at full strength? Why hasn't the US military been able to stem the violence--let alone crush the insurgency?
Why is Al-Qaeda still out there--calling the shots and killing hundreds of people?
Stop watching Faux Newz and get with reality: THE SURGE IS NOT WORKING!

Could be more but they have very strict rules of engagement. They cannot shoot at anyone who is not holding a weapon. The terrorists can shoot at them from a roof top and quickly drop their weapon and stand there with arms folded and laugh. This comes from the son of a friend of mine. He is a 1st Lt USMC in Iraq.
