well, all my years growing up I was told that you can't - its bad for appendix or something like that. Does anyone know for sure?

Pea pods are perfectly edible (and good!). If you find them tough, you can pull the stringy fiber off the edge, but as far as I know they pose no health risks. I've eaten them all my life, and have had no troubles from my appendix.

You're referring to pea pods.

I don't know about the pods for round peas, but there are some pea pods that are in fact quite tasty, and are used a lot in Chinese food. I imagine the regular pea pods are edible too, as long as they're not too ripe.

umm is it called the pod? well i eat them, like the snow peas right? i eat the things that hold the pea, but you need to take out something before you eat it, i cook it in a stir fry, its crunchy. i think you can eat it, why do you need your appendix, doesn't really do anything, you can take it out with surgery

my grandma always ate them. she would break then to get the 'inner skin' off and chomp away.
