If I hear ONE more child has been named Ella, Ava, Mia, Mya, Olivia, Noah, Elijah, etc... Geez!!!!!

Why do these people not realise when the teacher calls their childs name every kid in the class will turn around? Why can't people see that they are sucked into fads. When my brother thought of a name for his little girl he didn't tell a soul. And as a result her name is quite rare, but now stupid or with stupid spelling.

I love the name Ava for a girl and was considering that until I heard it being used all the time. I was thinking Ava Marie because when my husband and I got married the one song he wanted played was Ave Maria so I thought if we are lucky enough to have another girl (We lost a baby girl last Aug) I wanted that name. It just seems like parents are like sheep when it comes to naming their children...following the flock. If I had a dime for every Kayla, Haley, Hallee, Hallie, Kalie, Kyla, etc I would never have to work again.

It took my husband and I eight months to pick a girl name
I needed to be able to say it, we both needed to like it, Can not be shorten, not that poplar
My husband was named Michael, his family called him Michael, everyone else called him Mike. He hated that. He hated having several Mike's at school, at work

We came up with a name, that was popular is the south, not in where we lived
Hayley. His mother was not crazy about the name, but all her friends loved it. A name you did not hear offen
Last year, from 1 to 5th grade, in her school there were four Hayley's. All spelled different. Two in 1st grade.
I am not sure what happen the year my daughter was born, Hayley became very common
When my daughter get to be in 6th grade, in my town, there will be between 6 to 12 Hayleys
This is the same for names like Lauren, Olivia, Grace, Hannah. None of these names were common when it came to pick out the name, but in the end they were

The same thing happen a few years before with my sister daughter name, Emily.
I do not think you can control names. How hard one try, you may not get what you want
Some people like common names, I not sure why
I do know if we had her a year or two before, she would be the only one in her grade. That is what we wanted, not what we got
I can tell you, people need to name a child something they love. If they love a name there whole life, then they should go for it.

I know 7 Jodi and one Jody in my life
My first three, 2 girl Jodi and one boy Jody were in my high school class, in one town. It was my 3rd high school
This can happen to any not common name

I think a lot of mothers go out, buy a baby name book and flip to the section that has the top 100 names lists. So instead of reading through the book we end up with the same names a lot. The names aren't bad at all, but like you said, it's getting old fast. Here in Australia there is a craze with the Aiden, Jayden, Caedan, Brayden, Hayden etc for boys. I think classic names will never leave the top 100 and that's ok but it's nice to see some new ones. My friend used 'Aowyn' as a middle name for her girl which I think it very pretty and original.

Sorry, I would much rather there be 3 or 4 kids in the class who have the same name as my child (if that's the worst thing they have to endure, then that's pretty good). My child is an individual because of who she is, not because of her name.

Also, I don't think parents who name there children Ella, Ava, Mia, or any of those other names you mentioned are being "sucked into a fad"...those are actual names. I believe it's the parents who are naming their children Nevaeh and making up names in a ridiculous effort to be original...those are the ones being sucked into a fad. I know I'm probably in the minority, but it's just my opinion.

I'm glad to see someone else bitching about this.... that's all I do! I don't know why everyone doesn't care that their child will have the same name as everyone else.

I probably won't need to refer to it until next year, but if I hear a name I like or one comes to mind, I look on the social security website's top 1,000 baby names, and if the name is on there, it does not go on my list - end of story!

It's not a new phenomena.....why do you think there are so many out there or so many . Every generation had their favourite names. When I named my daughter Vanessa 20 years ago it was not a popular name then now it's full of little 13 y/o named Vanessa.

I kinda agree with ??? ?. Parents can name kids what they want.
BUT, it does annoy me when they name their kids something because it's getting to be so popular, or if there are like seven people with that name in a class of twenty-five.

As a matter of fact, I have a new baby cousin named Olivia.

I agree with you. What is with that, anyway? Why would you want to name your child the same as so many others? When my daughter was born, I liked Sarah, but I started to notice a lot of Sarah's around before she was born so I dumped that one. To her disgust I named her Holly (Mom! You named me after a prickly bush!!) and, no, she wasn't born at Christmas. It is short and uncomplicated and she hasn't gone through life correcting people's spelling of her name (how annoying THAT must be) When she named her own daughter, she checked out the most popular baby names list and made a point to avoid all of them!

Yep! I went to school with about a thousand Ashleys, Ambers, Crystals, etc. When we had our daughter we didn't want a name like that. Her name (Katherine) is the most popular American name in history but it doesn't come in waves.

At least those names are a HECK of a lot better than names like Nevaeh or any other made-up ghetto names out there.
