It is an old BIOS that does not support your new processor. BIOS really needs updating.

Actually, if the system is shutting down before you can even get into the BIOS, it is more than likely an overheat situation, since you have recently installed a new processor, this sounds as though you are not getting a firm connection between the heatsink and processor. After you install a processor, you should always apply a small amount of heatsink compound, this is a thermal conducting grease, that transmits the heat of the processor into the heatsink faster. If you are still using the heatsink and fan from the old processor, the heatsink may not be rated for the new processor thus not dissipating the heat appropriately for the new processor. You might try using a heatsink and fan like this one: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=BA23520 .

There are a few thing you can try. First see if there is a new BIOS update for the mother board. If not, just download the latest one they have, even if this is the same one you are running, and reflash the BIOS. You can try to reseat everything on the motherboard like the prosessor, memmory and video card. Take out anything that you don't need to get it running like a sound card or second NIC. Make sure that the new processor you bought does not have any bent or broken pins. another thing is to make sure that the mother board that you actually have matches the actual model # on the board itself. a lot of times, PC makes use custom boards based of popular designs and their board is slight different then the main stream mobo and maybe it just doesn't support that proc. happy hunting!

You install the new processor and the computer boots up, but it still identifies the processor as the old one?
Reset the BIOS chip, so it will redetect all the hardware. That should make it see the new processor.

Or you install the new processor and the system won't boot?
Did you check if the old RAM will work with the new processor?

The old motherboard bios doesnt regognize the new chip. You have to flash your bios with newwest mother board bios You must down load the new bios from mother boards web site and follow their instructions to the letter to install

Did you go into the bios and see if if detected it there. If not you will have to flash the bios and update it. Hope that helps.
