Hi,
what do you think would really make your parents start to take you seriously and support you?
Do they know what actors do? REALLY? Do they know what it's like being an actor? Do they know what you really have to go through to become an actor?
Do YOU know the answers to those questions? Do you know what it's like and what the issues actors face, what it's like to work on set, what your chances are of just getting work, how hard you'll have to work, how much you will have to invest of your time and energy to study, to do mailings, to write cover letters, to submit yourself for auditions, to prepare for auditions, prepare your monologues, bone up on your cold reading skills, take specialization classes, travel, etc.
Do you know what the average earnings are of an actor these days? Do you know how many days on the average an actor works.
Do you know what it takes to become an actor and do you have what it takes?
Have a look at the following links:
http://www.actingcareerstartup.com to see some of the issues actors face while trying to get work.
http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/taking_acting_classes.html to see 23 benefits of taking acting classes.

http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/a_working_actor.html to see what it was like for me once on the set of an independent film.
That’s just a start. I strongly encourage you to talk to other actors, both working and struggling as well. It will help you in your education.
That's a lot of questions I know and I asked them on purpose.
Why?
Because if you can start to answer all those questions, maybe you will be more convincing. I know you're young, but you have to get started sometime. Some teenagers have someone who is an adult and who supports them in their goals. You don't so you can either keep butting heads with your parents or being afraid to approach the subject, or you can start to find out things for yourself.
In other words, the more information you have, the more informed you are about what you say you want, the more you can talk about it intelligently and demonstrate that you know what you are talking about, the greater your chances of being able to convince them to support you. If they havejust as much information as you do, then you are on an equal playing field. They are your parents. They're bigger. They're older. They have the money. They win! At least until you’re out of the house or until they no longer foot your bills!
Is that the way you want it? No? Then get a move on and start doing your homework! :-)
Does doing your homework mean that you will get what you want in the end? Not necessarily. Your parents are certainly taking into consideration your best interests. But even if you don't get them to support you, you will know a lot more than you do now about the profession you say you want to pursue.
Go to the site: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com and download a free e-booklet titled: What It Takes To Become An Actor. All you have to do is sign in and you can download it for free. It will help you understand more and get you started off in the right direction.
Good luck!

sit down and talk with your parents and see if you can come to a compromise... thats what I did. No I don't have an agent but I am getting the education I need in order to make a profession out of acting. Even if they won't pay for you to take acting classes thats ok! there should be atleast 1 drama class at your school and your parents would probably let you audition for the school shows. Acting isn't about auditioning and making it to Hollywood. Its about the art. If you are really passionate about it and are willing to take time then you will go places!

Only turn to acting because you can't not do it. If it's possible you might enjoy something else, then do it.
If acting is what you must do, then you must do two things:
1.) learn a marketable skill (like typing or data entry) that you can do between jobs to support yourself.
2.) get all the experience you can. Try out for anything and everything you can from school choir to the track team to community theater
Then you must absolutely show your parents your dedication by being the most disciplined child imaginable. Put your education first and make sure your grades are good. Failure to do so blocks your path to success.

you know what. prove them wrong. if they wont pay for acting dont say "the hell with them" because you will need there help if you want an agent.
put on a play. charge people like 2 dollars. but invite everyone you know to audition. make flyers hand type up a script make costumes with the cast/crew
and you know what make it good. you can even write your own play which would definitely be harder. but you could if you arent in a rush and so excited!
i would do wizard of oz.
you can have 6 or 7 lil kids be munchkins and that would guarentee like alot of fam. in the audience. then have like 4 or five close friends be the main characters.
throw a cast party after with the money you have earned. (which will be like 30 dollars lol)
type up the script from the movie. pause the movie, write the line on your laptop, and keep on doing that taking out scenes you dont want.make a schedule and give yourselves like 2 months of rehearsal. or twice the rehearsal for one month. i say 7 or 8 rehearsals, a couple hours long each.
or audition and be in a play. if you dont get a lead, too bad. this is where the advantage of you know putting on your own play comes in handy. ur own play, ur own casting!
if you love acting and performing then this should be fun. it shouldnt be a hassle or even "this is the step im taking to get to bla bla bla..."
this should be what you really love is getting on stage even if it is your garage. you might have to put on 10 plays before ur parents pay for acting. they might never and that would suck. but you sound nice enough just dont whine once!!!! be civil to them and show your interest.
once you have alot of plays or classes on your resume, then guess what, you can send your resume to agents! thats a whole different question tho. you sound like you dont have too much experience which fortunately doesnt mean you suck but it just doesnt prove that you are good. once you havethat proof on paper of that work you did, those classes you took on your resume, come back and ask for formats and where to send it to.
agents never take people without a resume and without headshots. because they would never send an actor without a resume and a headshot on an audition

i wouldn't go after an agent right away. Try acting for your local community theatre or college first. Most actors in the Movies and on T.V. have been on the stage first...and a lot of them prefer it.... Acting in these venues will enhance your skills. I don't care what anyone says, acting is not easy. It's a lot of hard work and dedication. Trust me, you should start small before shelling out the bucks for an agent.

so be in a school play or as they say above, put on your own play. you only get an agent after you have something they can sell to casting directors like great talent or great beauty, so that will take a while. parents are aware that only a small percentage of those who want to be actors become actors and that many of those have drug problems, so they are against acting as a career for their kids. The only way you can get them on your side is to be very good at it and make them proud of you by being great in all the plays.

at first, be certain which you want to act given which you adore performing and not given which you want to develop right into a conventional Hollywood famous guy or woman “at some point” or earn shitloads of money. very few human beings get to try this – and getting repute and money is a controversy of remarkable organic skills and success, extra so the latter; enable’s be straightforward, we've a great number of no-sturdy actors besides making a marvelous style of greenbacks. you're able to desire to be ‘observed’ by employing the surprising human beings on the surprising time, get the surprising connections, the surprising collaborators and human beings to artwork with, the surprising roles for you, the surprising portfolio – many of the “rights” contain success. element taken, enable’s flow on. seek for on line auditions, I’m useful you’ll discover many – examine out IMDB or a number of those self reliant action picture web pages; they’re great for construction a sturdy portfolio without plenty hassles. placed up a number of your performing clips on YouTube; you would be responsive to in case you’re ‘pastime’ cloth or not – magnificent skills is often favored; no be counted if it’s on YouTube or in the Oscars. you besides could could desire to get some collaborators to artwork with; administrators, writers, friends and instructors which will instruct you a thank you to construct a portfolio – without solid help from collaborators, maximum of your performing skills will very probably bypass to waste. and then additionally bypass with the standard stuff like drama training in college, drama college after severe college and native theater (severe college performs and dinner theatre are sturdy starts off). and you are able to could desire to absorb a low-paying activity to help your self; yet like I suggested – in case you’re magnificent and certainly Hollywood cloth, human beings would be responsive to and likely you will "make it" (merely gonna take it sluggish). whether it’s maximum mandatory to act for the relaxing of it, not because of the fact of desires of money and repute – even sturdy actors in many situations don’t gain that, it’s extra a pastime of success than the rest. desire that facilitates. you are able to e mail me for extra help.
