i want one so bad and i made up a tank just for him and let it cycle. i found a store that had them and when i got there the guy asked me if i had fresh or brackish i told him fresh. he said i couldnt get it because it needed brackish and it had to be set up. i knew it was supose to be brackish but i had read on here that no salt was needed and i could put him in fresh. the guy walked away and i dont know what kind of salt to get instant ocean or reef crystals or what. and i dont know how much to use. i guess i should have researched even further than thw 26 pages i already read on them. any help. i want him so bad. also i was told i could have more than one. i always thought i couldnt. help!!!!???

You can do freshwater but he/she won't last very long. You should instead call the lfs and ask what their tank parameters are for the green spotted puffer fish and slowly acclimate salt into your tank over the next couple of weeks and then purchase the puffer.

You will be using marine salt and not standard aquarium salt. And your hydrometer settings will probably be somewhere between 1.005 to 1.015 with a ph of 7.5 or higher. Brackish water is very close to sea water which measures 1.025 on a salinity tester.

yes they are brackish water fish but can live in frshwater but at some time most be introduced to the brackish lifestyle
and i do believe you can have more then one
and about creating brackish water i believe they have it in a bottle so you just have to add the contents of the bottle and whala you got brackish water

aquarium salt is what you can use

But if you don't want a brackish puffer, you can get Dwarf Puffers instead, these are the ones which are true Freshwater puffers, and actually the only ones

Hope that helps
Good luck
