Well, no, you can't get your period once you're pregnant — once your body starts producing the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and your pregnancy is established, your menstrual cycle is interrupted and normal periods stop. But you may have bleeding or spotting during pregnancy that can seem like a period.

Some pregnant women have what's called "implantation bleeding" that can happen around the time their period is due, and they may mistake that bleeding for a period. This spotting may be caused by the fertilized egg burrowing into the blood-rich lining of the uterus, a process that starts just 6 days after fertilization, and it's generally a lot lighter than a typical period — just a day or two of very light spotting.

If you're pregnant and you're not sure when your last period started, this can make establishing a due date difficult for your healthcare provider. If you have any doubts, your provider can feel how big your uterus is with a pelvic examination and estimate how far along you are. In most cases, your provider will also order an ultrasound before the middle of your pregnancy to measure the size of your developing baby and clarify exactly when the baby is due.

Many women who bleed a little bit in early pregnancy deliver without any complications, but bleeding can also be a cause for concern. It may be the first sign of a miscarriage. If so, your symptoms probably will go on to include heavy cramping and bleeding much heavier than a normal period.

Abnormal bleeding can also be a sign of ectopic or tubal pregnancy. If you have sharp pains in your lower abdomen, especially if the pain is only on one side, you should see your practitioner right way to find out if you have an ectopic pregnancy. A tubal pregnancy can be life-threatening, and sometimes the only symptom is bleeding around the time your period is expected. Often, the period may be lighter than usual. Sometimes a home pregnancy test will be negative, and the pregnancy can only be detected by checking blood hCG levels.

If you bleed at all early in your pregnancy, it's best to notify your doctor or midwife to get specific instructions. She may suggest getting a blood test to check your hCG levels or order an ultrasound to evaluate your condition more thoroughly.

it is possible. I know several people who had regular periods throughout an entire, healthy pregnancy. And there are many cases where the woman goes into labor and never even knew she was pregnant because she was getting her period the whole time.

Most women's bodies will not ovulate when it is pregnant, but there are cases when the body continues, and the unfertilized egg still has to be flushed out.

There have been cases of twins being born, and the doctors determine 1 of them is 2 or 3 weeks older than the other one.

There is also some cases of women with 2 sets of reproductive organs. They will often be on different cycles and will get a period every 2 weeks. You could get pregnant in 1 uterus, and the other one would still continue on as normal.

She could also have an ectopic pregnancy where the egg is "stuck" in the fallopian tube... I believe bleeding is common with that too.

First of all,
you have to find out whether it is really her period or is it vaginal spotting (Blood droplets on the underwear which can be like a light period that goes on and off, to just a few droplets of smeared blood/yellow spots). If its spotting, it could be pregnancy. It's better she goes for a pregnancy test.
Or if she is embarassed to go to a doctor, its better she goes to a chemist to get a pregnancy test. And if she gets a positive or an in between answer that means she might be pregnant and should go to a clinic.
If it is negative, it could mean because she is too worried and stressed about being pregnant which could result in a phantom pregnancy which has all the symptoms of pregnancy including vaginal spotting. This is psychological and it can happen when a person is too worried or stressed about being pregnant, so the body mimics her 'worries' and expectation of being pregnant symptom wise even though her eggs are not fertilized.

(Sometimes a negative result in a test kit is not accurate so the best way is to go for a check up.)

YES !! She definately can. I was on birth control pills & still having regular periods, a day of vomiting alerted me I had a test and was actually SIXTEEN weeks pregnant, I wouldn't have known until I started to show, except that it was my 4th pregnancy, I Only Ever Vomit When I'm Pregnant.
Your friend seems to be very young, and the only way to tell is to do a test. If she can't talk to her mum then a close friend you appear to be a very caring friend, or other trusted adult should be informed, so that proper help can be sought alcohol consumption and drug use during pregnancy, as you seem very aware, can cause damage to the unborn baby.

yes people have gotten their periods during their pregnancy, it is rare but it does happen. Another thing that is rare is getting pregnant when you are on your period. I think that your friend would have some sort of a feeling if she were, she knows her own body, but she can always take a test. Morning sickness usually starts after six weeks.

normally a women is considered to be conceive only if she does not get periods for the past 90 days
