All you have to do is write it as the multiplication of two binomials and FOIL (first, outside, inside, last)

(4x - 2y)^2
==> write as two binomials
(4x - 2y)(4x - 2y)
==> FOIL
(4x)(4x) + (4x)(-2y) + (-2y)(4x) + (-2y)(-2y)
==> simplify individual terms
(16x^2) + (-8xy) + (-8xy) + (4y^2)
==> combine like terms
(16x^2) + (-16xy) + (4y^2)

ANSWER: 16x^2 -16xy + 4y^2

(a - b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2

Let a = 4x, b= 2y.

(4x - 2y)^2
= (4x)^2 - 2(4x)(2y) + (2y)^2
= 16x^2 - 16xy + 4y^2

(4x - 2y) (4x - 2y)
16x² - 8xy - 8xy + 4y²
16x² - 16xy + 4y²
