Stephen Hawking wrote 'A Brief History of Time', which stayed on the British Sunday Times bestseller list for a record-breaking 237 weeks. He also wrote Black Holes and Baby Universes.
As for Authors of fiction, thereare not very many famous ones. Christy Brown, has cerebral palsy - but published numerous poetry collections, and his autobiography entitled "My Left Foot" but he was able to speak, and had use of his left foot, to type with.

The others who wrote about Stephen Hawking were correct--to a degree. His book was scientific in nature and as far as I know did not discuss his own personal trials and tribulations in writing the book. Perhaps a book by the late Christopher Reeves would address your question better.

yes, there was (probably he's still alive actually) an Irishman named Christy Brown who was paralyzed except for his left foot. He used it to type a memoir which was entitled "My Left Foot." Some of us remember it was made into a movie starring Daniel Day Lewis.
In fact, I think this is a very good book for letting you know how that felt.
