My sister as a 99 Taurus, and it drove great. The gears shifted smoothed, and no signs of problems. Well see goes to get gas, and when see gets back in nothing. The car wont move, and when you put it in drive/reverse its like its in neutral?

What i have done is hooked my scan tool, and check for codes. I wonted to make sure the trans computer did not go bad, and i got no codes back. The only thing i can think of is its just went up. I dont get how a trans with less then 140k, and never showed signs of going bad could...

Also had a trans flush about a month ago. This is what i think is the problem. I have pulled the pan, and now think it is something else. There is no metal shavings in the pan etc. Its clean, and lans also. Some one told me it could be the plug? I have no clue what there talking about.

Thanks

TRS is clean. "shift linkage problem." The shift linkage works find. I also made sure it was working all the way in the trans. I did this by pulling the pan, and have some one shift gears. It does shift all the way to the trans.

pull one of the trans lines loose and start the engine see if it pushes any fluid out. It should come out with force if not ck front trans pump.

Check the transmission range selector (TRS)on the top of the transmission. Those switches are a known problem. Open the connector and check for green corrosion. If you find any, you can try to clean it out, but you'll probably end up buying a new one. The TRS is what tells the transmission what gear to shift into.

Try that first.

I would bet bottom dollar you lost the torgue converter. Ford has a problem with many ot the Tarus and Windstar transmissions going out and customers are being charged for transmission rebuilds or replacements when the inner splines in the torque converter has stripped out. They are no bigger than a large pencil anyway. Autozone has one made in Tennessee by Daques?? for $174.00 that fixes the issue of the splines stripping out. Also I am also a ASE Master Mechanic and have fixed many Fords for people with this same issue that was going to be charges $3200 to fix and I did it for $400.

It could be the torque converter. As the link between the engine and the transmission when diagnosing a "no shift" problem, I will suspect the torque converter also.

140k is a pretty average life for any transaxle. But it doesn't sound like it's blown. More like a minor shift linkage problem.

Simple. may or may not work. disconnect the positive cable from your battery for about 10/15 minutes Reconnect. Try it. This will reset your computer settings. If it doesnt work, then try the selector transition switch

The best diagnostic procedure would be to simply eliminate the converter lock up function and see if the symptom disappears. If it does, you need a new converter. If it doesn't, you need internal transmission work.

IF THIS WAS THE FIRST TINE THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED OUT IN 140,000 MILES THEN THAT WAS WHAT CAUSED IT TO GO BAD.

TRANSMISSION FLUID IS HIGHLY DETERGENT AND THE OLD FLUID THAT WAS FLUSHED OUT WAS LIKELY BURNT.

THE NEW FLUID DID JUST WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO, CLEAN UP THE INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PARTS.
