I've heard several suggestions:
- 1 minute penalties
- 4-on-4 the entire time
- shorter OT periods
- going to the shootout after 2 OT periods
- (Anything else you might have heard?)

Personally, I'm a fan of the players of today battling the same way players of yesterday did.

If I had a dollar for every time I hear a hockey commentator complain about the playoff format, I'd buy breast implants! Seriously, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. This American fan is quite satisfied with the format the way it is.

No, they shouldn't change it. Playoff overtime is the most nail-biting type of hockey. You never know when it's gonna end.

With penalties, fans cheer their team a little harder, especially those on the PK. Fans' hopes are strengthened, and if you cut the time in half, it won't be as exciting.

4-on-4 is the only possibility I'd consider of the ones you mentioned, but I don't think it's really necessary. 5-on-5 in overtime is still plenty exciting.

If you shorten the OT periods, the games will just take longer to finish. Playoff OT thrives on 3rd- and 4th-liners coming fresher off the bench to win it because the bigger names are too tired.

If you bring in a shootout, it won't be as nail-biting and may not be as entertaining.

Drop the puck already!

NO!!!

1 minute penalties would be the only thing i would be okay with personally, although i doubt it changes much as they are reluctant to call anything in an overtime playoff game . . . i think thats the fun of overtime hockey having it be a grind so no shootout

I dont think you can have it in a normal season because it could really lead to unbalanced amounts of playing time among teams . . . but in the playoffs, the end is in sight and I like it

4 on 4 is the only one i agree with. Then again, it has to be 5 on 5 so they can finnish the game the way they started. The shootout one is dumb. In the season it is okay but not in playoffs. Shootout is no way to settle a game but it is entertaining in the season.

Don't change a thing. Sitting on the edge of your seat during OT in sudden death is fantastic. I mean winning the cup on a freakin' shootout, what a bore!!!

Keep the shootout for the regular season.

No.

The whole idea of a hockey game in the playoffs is playing until there's a winner.

Same rules should apply from the first minute onwards.

Again, this is something that American television stations complain about............but dare say something about going to a home run hitting contest after the 12th inning of a playoff baseball game and you'll get your head cut off.

Personally, I love games that go to 3:00am in the morning!

I would not change a single thing. Playoff OT is one of the most dramatic elements of the sport and a true test of physical fitness and mental strength.

Enough of the dillution and dumbing down for the masses. If they're not going to get the beauty of the sport and its nuances, too bad.

ZERO shootouts in the playoffs, period. Games should be won by the team, not an individual player; especially for such crucial games as the playoffs.

Personally, I like the marathon games, like game one of Stars/Canucks. But then again, hockey is a drug to me; I just can't get enough of it!

consistent with possibility double time beyond regulation? or 2 overtimes like final nighttime. unlike Baseball the place you have the backside of the inning back back in case you supply up one interior the main suitable 0.5, the huge charm to Hockey time beyond regulation is the surprising dying nature of it. First to attain wins and play transformations from offense to protection continuously, unlike soccer. soccer comes closest in that an interception or Fumble can bring about the two team scoring on any given play.

No, nothing should be changed. Those that complain that it drags out too long should go watch something else. The best part is the sudden-death feeling of it. Every time a team brings the puck pass ur blue line, u know this could be the last.
