isn't this the same as y=mx+b ?
rewritten as 7 = -4x + 2y......is the next step: y=-4/2x+7/2? if not, what is? and please explain.

nope. ok so your line is 2y-4x=7...

1) you need to find the equation in y= form. so first you move the 4x to the other side of the equation (2y=4x+7). Now you need to divide both sides by 2 to get rid of 2y (y=4/2x+7/2) which simplifies to (y=2x+7/2).

2) so. your slope is 2 according to Y=MX+B.

3) Parallel lines simply mean that use the same slope and a different Y Intercept (B). So all you need to do is find a different B ( can be pretty much anything)

For example, Y=2x+4 is parallel to Y=2x+7/2

Hope that helps...

2y - 4x = 7
2y = 4x + 7
y = 2x + 7/2
Now it's in slope-intercept form. The 2 is the slope. Any line with the same slope will be parallel to the given line. So you can change the 7/2 to anything you want ( except something that's equivalent to 7/2, then you get the same line).

u have to isolate the y, so put 2y=4x-7 and divide everything by 2 to get the equation, it would be y=2x-7/2, and to find something parallel, it would be a dif. b value, hope this helps
