Yes. Baking powder is made from baking soda and starch. Use a little less than what the recipe says for the baking power since too much soda will give the cookies a funny aftertaste.

Definitely Baking Soda. You can buy large bags at Sam's club or regular-sized boxes of generic at grocery or dollar stores for pretty cheap prices.
I put 1/4 of a scoop of Baking soda in with almost every load of laundry I do. The colors come out brighter, the stains come out better, and the clothes smell better.
You can also use a paste of baking soda and water to clean hard-water scale off of your bathroom fixtures. Vinegar works better, though. Tie a bag of vinegar over your shower head and watch the yellow junk fizz away.
Baking soda in a hot bath will help skin rashes disappear, especially diaper rash.
Hope this helps.

you can use both Baking soda -Baking powder for cleaning.
I have use them both for years.
Baking powder is Super Great for burnt on foods or even stuck on foods.
Just wet you item (pan)etc.sprinkle some Baking powder and leave it set for awhile if it is bad make a paste spread it around the item and let it set for a few.
it boils it loose.
It can also help shine and eat away some water spots on stove burners and tops
also it is good for copper bottoms used with cream of tarter it is great for copper pots and also for drains. It also is good for burnt on stains from coffee pots

Baking soda is my answer to which one to use. The difference of the two is in how they react to heat and/or acidic type things to levitate in cooking. I can't remember exactly, but with baking powder you use vinegar or buttermilk to activate it with heat, like in muffins or red velvet cake. Baking soda is a real workhorse in the home: it removes smells in the fridge/freezer, drains, and/or garbage disposal; it can be used as a cleanser, for laundry, even window washing, or as toothpaste, etc. It works on burnt on gunk on the bottom of pots & pans, especially copper. Make a paste and leave it to soak. Rinse well. Mix it with salt & lemon juice to remove stains from counter tops, cutting boards, etc. Good luck.
