.............i just can't believe that some people are actually against this ordinance because they think it's a "black culture" thing (all race of young people do this).....well, i'm black, and my son would catch a woopin' with a belt if he does not wear a belt with his pants pulled up!

what's your opinion?

they're leaning more towards a fine for indecent exposure....and possibly fineing the parents too.

to maigen_obx---a lot of these kids nowadays seem to control their parents instead of their parents controlling them and what they do ( thanks to this thing now where if you spank a child you go to jail) so now a whole bunch of laws( like this one) have to be made to fix what a whipping to the backside could of cured!

blue bee....your making absolutely no sense at all..i don't want laws to correct other laws.....i did not say that so please read and stop ***-u-ming....i said that laws are being made to correct problemsa that "we" could have corrected ourselves, but because nowadays if you spank a child, you go to jail. these kids know this and they take advantage of it, so some of them end up ruling over their parents instead of the other way around...and yes, in some cases nowadays, unfortunately the government have to step in certain situations because of the laziness of parents today...my children have not and will not ever be society's stereotype....they catch their a** beatings from time to time, just like i did growing up and i never went to jail, never did drugs, graduated from college and a happy wife and mom. all 3 of my kids have paid college tuitions and WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IF IT KILLS ME!!and no, i won't be moving to China so you will just have to share this country with me :-)

Absolutely NOT! I do not agree that seeing boxer shorts is in any way obscene (f the top of your underpants is deemed "obscene" whats next? Your bra strap?), but that aside, you may agree with this. But what about when they come along with another law which further infringes on your rights as an individual that you DON'T agree with? Well, too bad. This 'law' has already set precedent. Its a slippery slope when you start talking about laws limiting our rights and freedoms as individuals to express ourselves.

Also, this is not just a "black" thing - skateboarders and punk kids have been dragging their pants for some time now as well. I would say its just a Young thing. Like pink hair or black nail polish.

EDIT: See, you just made my argument. We need LESS government interference in our private lives, NOT MORE! You want laws to correct other laws. Then more laws to fix those, and so ad infinitum. I don't need the government telling me how to dress myself and my children. If you want to live under that kind of control, move to communist China and leave my freedom alone!!!

I think this is just another matter of parenting. If people want to wear their pants around their ankles, they can, as long as their genitalia is covered so that they aren't indecent. Technically, a girl can go without a shirt as long as she has nipple pasties on...I see no difference between the two. If you outlaw one, you have to outlaw the other. I think the real issue is teaching your kids decency. I agree that this is not a racial issue, it is really personal preference. Do I like seeing people with their pants that low? No, I don't, but I also think that their are so many laws out there for stupid things like this that we are becoming less like the "free" country we claim to be.

This is not something that should be legislated. This is something that parents, not the government, should be dealing with
