comparing it to my brainy cousin who got 6 A stars and 3 a's might seem crap but is it ok grades?

this allows me to enter the sixth form which required at least 7 gcses A-C

That is a 2.4 average. Not particlularly impressive.

It's not bad. My cousin too beat me (by one A* ) but you'll learn to live on and be happy with your results, whatever they are. I pretty much figured this out about 5 minutes after getting mine.
The average is for a different country, probably. Does it allow you to do what you want to do and was it to the best of your ability? That'll probably answer your questions.
