x^2+4x-32=0

If I remember correctly...
take half of the middle number= 2 and square that =4
then add 4 to the end and subtract it from the last digit
So x^2 +4x+4 (-32-4)
then I think you subtract the last digit so it is on the other side
x^2 +4x+4= 36
the point of this is so that it factors squarely (x+2)^2=36 and can be solved easily

x² + 4x - 32 = 0

We will change the constant term to make the left side a square term by adding 36 to both sides of the equation.

x² + 4x - 32 + 36 = 36

x² + 4x +4 = 36

(x + 2)² = 36

x + 2 = ±6

x = 4, x= -8
.
