i always intervene, promptly and to the best of my ability. I can only think of one exception, and that is a drowning person in rushing, rapid water, say a flooded river. That's hopeless. You will only succeed in making two tragedies out of one. Plus,I have dependents. It's a thin line between doing the right thing and playing hero senselessly. You have to be well grounded about risk factors v. surival/rescue potential. It's like ordering a helicopter back during a search where time is of the essence but with a blizzard coming up,hey, that helicoptor will crash, period.

I would intervene, even if it is just to scream like a maniac and get enough attention to scare off the bad guy. I say we should try to stop it. However, in Dallas last week, 4 people stopped to help a man they thought had a car crash. He shot and killed two of them and injured two others (one a cop) then killed himself......Soooo??
