why do most guys think that softball is just an easier version of baseball. i am talking fastpitch softball. i asked a question about guys hitting jennie finches riseball. i even had a video of a bunch of major leaguers striking out. yet the majority of answers were that they could hit it. one guy even said that if they put the mound at the right distance then he could. well thre right distance for softball is 40 feet, thats just the way it is. they are different sports. guys tell me why you think this way? i mean if you do, if you don't then thats good. i am not saying a girl could play major league baseball, but i know most guys couldn't play pro fastpitch softball.

i definatly don't think softball is harder than baseball. in my opinion they are to different to compare. you have to have different reactions and skills in both so why compare. both are hard, i don't think a softball player would do very well in baseball, and i don't think a baseball player would do well in fastpitch softball.

Your right, hitting fast-pitch softball is a lot more difficult. We had a pitcher last year for our softball team who set the state record for K's, she is amazing and no one can hit off of her. NO ONE. but playing the field is a lot easier becuase of the shorter distances. And even though they pitch so fast, hitting off major league pitcher isnt much easier. Overall, you're right that a lot of guys are cocky enough to think that they're better than those girls but dont think that softball is any harder than baseball.

well here is the deal...guys don't want to get shown up by girls so when they are asked can they hit a softball pitched by a girl they think so. Softball and baseball require two different swings and the bat isn't as big in softball...by the way if you look at most hits in baseball it is off of a mistake...a hanging pitch, a pitch in a hitter's wheel house...haven't seen too many softball games so i can't really compare how they get hits...what i'm trying to say is no a baseball player would not have sucess against jennie finch and ur right girls will not play in the majors

I know that I could never hit a Jennie Finch pitch, but I think that most major leaguers could adapt to hitting it with some practice. It's not surprising that they'd strike out against her because they're not used to the game, but I think guys with such quick swings and good eyes would adapt quickly.
I don't think most of us believe softball is an easier version of baseball - they're just different games. I would argue, though, that most pro baseball players would do better in softball than the women would do in baseball. I just think the pros have batspeed that the women can't compete with.
As for me, I'd be dead in either game against good players. I gave up when guys started hitting the high 80s.
EDIT - I noticed one post talks about women throwing in the 90s. Jennie Finch never throws above the 70 range - it's just that the short distance gives it more effect than a similar pitch would have from 60 feet.

I don't think that softballl is an easier than baseball for me is the same thing. The only thing different here is the ball (softbal is bigger than baseball). I played both but I prefer baseball because the game is more hard, the ball is small that mean you to be aware to catch or hit. The rules change a little bit, but basically is the same principle make out and makes run to win. The general tendency is to see softball as a girls game. Good luck and be blessed.

Most guys are idiots and full of bravado!
The mound is closer, the pitch is slower, but combined the reaction time is shorter and that's why it's so hard to hit (not to mention the upward angle instead of the baseball's downward tract).
The sole advantage that Cincinnati Knothole has over Little League is that we don't separate the genders, so girls can learn baseball all the way up to adulthood, or opt to play softball in another organization.
Sadly, there is not an outlet for women once they leave Knothole, but at least we gave them that chance when they were kids.

Umm...I don't play softball mainly because I can't seem to generate power lol....I can barely reach mid-center off a softball whereas I can crush baseballs left and right over fences. Weird isn't it...? I think that major league baseball is MUCH harder, but softball isn't a piece of cake either...

what the hell? guys probably just think that because its a girl pitching. yeah go ahead guys bash me, i dont care. fastpitch softball is fast and don't they throw balls around 90 mph and higher? I remember watching the American Softball team in the olympics win every single game and no team scored against them so they won every game by mercy rule until the last game with austrailia where the game ended by mercy rule 1-whatever it was. america won of course. they sure can pitch >_>
