The fuel injectors of my 90 trans am are shot and need to be replaced. Rather than buying the original factory injectors, I was considering installing performance injectors. But what are the advantages of putting in better injectors with a higher flow rate. The original injectors are 19 lb/hr. Whats a good size and resistance injector to use and can any size injectors be installed or do i also have to buy other parts to support it.

You don't need "high performance" injectors if your engine doesn't need it. You are just wasting your money. Everything has to work in conjunction. Higher flow injectors will need a high volume/pressure fuel pump. Since you have more fuel coming in now you are going to need a better intake.....bigger throttle body, ported heads for better flow and retune your ECU for the right air/fuel mixture.

Unless you have installed other performance mods to the engine, installing a higher flow rate injector will not give you any benifit. In fact, it will probably cause the engine to run rich.
The only reason you would install higher flow injectors is if you have added mods to the engine that require more air and fuel such as supercharging, turbocharging, nitrous. In addition to the injectors, you would also need the computer reprogrammed to accommodate the higher flowing fuel injectors. I would recommend buying a set of injectors from Linder Technical Services, the fuel injector gurus. They sell reconditioned fuel injectors for just about any car and the hard to find ones also. They also give credits for your old injectors.

They're pretty much a scam. The computer injects the amount of fuel needed for the amount of air the cylinders suck in. The computer will compensate for a higher flow rate by opening the injectors for a shorter time. You'd do best to stick with stock injectors for a stock engine.

The simple fuel injection you refer to is a small progression on old carburettor technology that made carburettors cheaper to manufacture. In this case each cylinder still aspirated a fuel-air mixture. In the case of the MPFI engines (around for over 12 years in India now), each cylinder sucks in filtered air (no fuel), and an injector sprays atomized fuel into the cylinder during the compression cycle, forming a combustible mixture INSIDE the cylinder. Towards the end of the compression stroke, the spark plug ignites the mixture. Sophisticated engines come with multiple valves, and more than one injection point and sometimes more than one spark ignition point as well within a single cylinder.

There is very little (practically nothing) advantage to performance injectors unless the whole motor and induction system is modified to match. You can get 'blue-printed' 19 lb/hr injectors though, which may help.

if you want to go with high flow you need to reprogram your computer to get the fuel air ratio right otherwise your car will be running shitty. also need to take a good look at what pressure they run at as to see if your fuel pump is right for it

well your going to need to know how many cc do you want to run and a different fuel rail and fuel regulator cuz it needs more pressure to inject the fuel in

unless you are running at wide open throttle a lot such as drag racing (at a track NOT ON THE STREET) just replace with stock units..
