Ok so i've been at this job for about 3 weeks, and i cant take it anymore. I work over 40 hours a week with no pay just commission., but i havn't had any sales since i started. The whole company is very slow, not just me. So ive been out for 2 days now with an excuse of a death in the family, which is not a lie. I dont feel like going back again because I'm not making any money at all and cant afford to work for no money at this time. I dont know how to go about quitting bc they are gonna think that i was out for 2 days bc i was planning to quit. I feel bad but i cant afford to be there anymore. :(
What should i say?!

By the way my bf works there too and we are both quitting..ugh!

This is easy, no pay and so far basically no commision, don't go back, you dont have to talk to them, and its not like they owe you a check or anything........At least thats what my cousin Linda would do, (We call it a "pulling a Linda")
Or if you want to do it professional, just go with a sob story how times are hard since, whoever past away, you have to go get a better paying job, that your sorry for leaving so quickly, but you cant help it, they cant make you stay.....Consider yourself an "Independant Contractor" Your the boss of how long you wanna stay there......

In most situations I would recommend giving a two week notice, but not with this one, call them and say look I cannot afford to keep working without getting paid, this is just not working out as I am losing money, and because of such will not be returning. Bet their has been many that have done the same thing. Never work for commission alone. Best of luck to you, and do not worry about the resume, not getting paid is a real good reason to quit

Were you hoping to use this job as a reference or something?? Because I think since you worked there for only 3 weeks I would say not to use them as a reference. Since you're not using them as a reference giving 1 day notice really should be no big deal. You'll just have to get over your feelings of guilt about quitting on short notice.

I say, just call and tell them you have a lot of personal matters to deal with right now and that you will be unable to continue further with the position.

It doesn't matter what they think of you. They don't know you since you've only been there for 3 weeks. They won't remember you in a year anyhow so do what you want to do.

It sounds like you can get a better job without effort so just do what makes you happy.

Well, since you already told your work there is a death in the family I would leave it at that and just tell them you need time to recuperate. If you've only been there three weeks it shouldn't be a big deal just don't use them as a reference or anything

Just tell them that it isn't working out. You can't afford to work with no pay. Thank them for the opportunity to work for them, and tell them that you have enjoyed working with them. But today is your last day.

Be polite, you may want to use them for a reference, but with working there only 3 wks, I think I would leave them off of the resume. Good luck.

If you are in a right to work state and have not signed a contract, you are under no obligation to give them notice. It is good karma to do so and they may be willing to help you with a reference when you apply for the next job.

I would simply tell the supervisor there that having a death in the family has made you re-exam your life and you have decided that you cannot afford to stay in your present situation. Thank them for the opportunity and wish them continued success.
