The amount of welfare that you can receive is so low that welfare reform is not needed. You need to be about 200% below the poverty line in order to get a very small amount of cash assistance. A family of four can not make more than $400 a month in order to get $400 in cash. How can people say others are abusing the system? There is nothing to abuse. Yes, they can get other benefits like medical or food stamps. But it's not even enough to live off of, let alone abuse.

To Steven F - Those figures were straight from the mouth of a social worker in Illinois. She does this everyday. I'm sure she knows what she is talking about

I'm a social worker from Ky and let me tell you. The welfare recipients are doing better than I am. They get free rent, their utilities paid nearly every month from one source or another. They get more than enough food stamps. Work? Are you kidding. The majority wouldn't work if you handed them a job on a silver platter. Work means they would have to get up before dinner time. They couldn't stay in their pajamas and house shoes and watch TV all day and night. I've had them come in my office in such apparel. They always seem to have enough money to get their hair done and their nails. So don't try and tell me the system is not being abused. Example: Three adults in one household. All healthy-none of them work. The woman has her 2 grandbabies living with her-so they can get more FS's. Now she always has her cell phone which never seems to stop ringing, even when she is stating she has no money to pay her electric. I could give you many more examples of fraud and abuse. Generations have been raised on welfare and unless something is done, it will continue. I for one and tired of working 2 jobs and seeing my tax dollars paying these lazy bums bills and food.

Your figures can't possibly be accurate. If they were anywhere close, the people on welfare would be physically kicking the illegal aliens out of the 'jobs Americans won't do'.

Note: 200% below the poverty line is not possible. Zero income is 100% below the poverty line. 200% below would be a NEGATIVE income.

It keeps people on it. Because if you make more, you get dropped more than you start making. You make 400, you get 400, you make 410, you get 200. That's why we need reform, it keeps people in poverty, even if they try to get out. It rewards doing nothing more to start improving oneself. That's why we need reform.

From what I hear, that is after they pay your rent, food & medical. I will take it. I get less after those expenses.
