Ford Focus, I've never had one but I know a few people who do and none of them have had a bad word to say about them.

1. Ford Focus
2. Opel Astra (Vauxhall Astra)
3. Citroen Xsara

Ford Focus first because they're tried and tested, as are Opel(Vauxhall) Astra. Citroen Xsara last because finish wasn't all that good and they are no longer made.

I'd pick the Ford Focus, I've driven a few and can't fault them - as for the Astra i'm not so sure about those, (I had a terribly unreliable vauxhall cavalier), Citroen Xsara? - i've heard the diesel ones are excellent.

Ford focus - good engines, not TOO ugly, can be an absolute hoot to drive and comfy on the long journeys.(my old company one)
Astra- too may engine issues (wife had a company one)
Citroen - French are pretty **** hot on diesel engines - will drive u to the moon

Try a Pug 306/7 - since buying my own its paid me back more than what it cost.... if u can stand a diesel HDI is still pretty rapid when u need it

Ford Focus - best to drive, most reliable (according to many reports - some claim better than Corolla), best looking.

The Astra is a nearly car - nearly as reliable, nearly as good to drive, just not quite there.

The Xsara's best feature is the 2.0 HDi turbodiesel engine - it is uncompetitive in most other areas.

Your life isn't over until an almost 11 year old girl starts raiding your closet for your old 'skinny' clothes, while the 3 year old who is watching says "Wow Momma outgrowed her clothes. She's a big girl now." I drove around for hours after that looking for a tree limb sturdy enough to hang myself from. I decided none could be trusted.

Astra. Anyone who criticises this car has obviously never driven one, or is just useless behind the wheel of a car.
