Genes are made up of DNA. Your DNA is formed into long pieces called chromosomes. Portions of each chromosome are genes.

Imagine a long street, broken up into blocks. The concrete of the street - that's DNA. The whole street, from start to finish, is a chromosome. Each city block is one gene. Some blocks are longer than others; some genes are longer than others.

It is 100% related to DNA. When the DNA is formed into the cell by (replication process), this DNA carries the genetic information that is necessary to form protein in a process called translation. Therefore, the genes are special sequence in the DNA that contains the genetic information.

A gene is a linear sequence of nucleotides along a segment of DNA that provides the coded instructions for synthesis of RNA, which, when translated into protein, leads to the expression of hereditary character.

Genes are made of DNA
DNA is nucleac acid which comes in four different types and connects together in long corkscrew shaped double strands. It is the sequence of the four types of DNA that determines what the gene does, like control your skin color or the shape of your nose. Pretty amazing.
